Im Richard , im 35 and alcoholic. Its been 10years of messing up then cleaning up. I spent the first 7months of 2016’sober then fell again in june. Tomorrow I have a disciplinary meeting at work and was suspended today as I got very drunk at the xmas party. Will likely be sacked tomorrow, although im seeking help and will hopefully be pescribed anabuse on Wednesday. Nightmare
Have you taken anabuse before? Has it worked for you?
I’m so sorry to hear about this. Please keep your chin up…we all fall…
6 months is a huge accomplishment! I’ve never lasted that long, except for while pregnant.
Hi there
Ive never had it before but I just cant stop at the minute and its been ten years of issues. How are you ?
Anyone who has ever had a nightmare knows that just when it’s at it’s worse, you wake up and figure out that it wasn’t in fact reality.
If your like me, alcohol turns reality into a nightmare but if we choose to “wake up” and live without it, we can continue to pursue our dreams. Like yourself I had maintained a lapse of sobriety but fell asleep again only to awake and find that I lost more than a job
You can do this! Just remember that only your in control of your dream space
@Rickwills where u from? Not that I am stocking you. Lol I am from Canada’s and I know up here a company cannot fire you from your job for intoxication… They have to offer you treatment first… However it depends on the company you work for… You should check your employment act from where you are from.
And I have been there and done that…
Sorry to hear, maybe this is a blessing is disguise. What is anabuse?
It’s a drug that makes you throw up if you injest alcohol…
I have never heard of it. It sounds awful and not something that would help at all. I feel like people would just not take it…
Funny thing huh? The lengths some of us go to inorder to fool our addictive tendencies instead of addressing the source?
I’m currently freaking out cause all those feels I drank are swimming to the surface and I wanna make the shut up- only reason why I’m not is this forum and feeling obligated to those I’ve encouraged to not give in
Argh! Babysepts to bedtime
Hi guys
I was intoxicated at the works Christmas party so it wasn’t whilst I was working. Im only taking anabuse so that I can stop whilst I recieve therapy and im tested for bipolar.
With my job in jeapardy I feel its the best thing to do right now, its part of recovery as its been many years trying.
Thank you for your support and im really pleased I found this forum x
Hi Richard,
Very sorry to hear what you’re going through however maybe it’s a blessing in disguise so you can get yourself in a better and healthier place.
You noted that you would be going to the doctors quite soon, can I suggest you talk to them about Campral or Naltrexone. They can help with withdrawals and in 6mnths to a year can help reset the dependency with the wiring of the brain (of course this needs to be combined with councelling services etc). I may also mention (as I’m not sure where you live) be completely open with your doctor about your addiction. My doctor in Australia suggested so many services and free services at that (including rehab for 1 week, 3 and 6mnth depending on circumstances), that are non judgemental and extremely helpful.
Hope this helps, good luck and hope to hear more about your journey x
Thank you
This was lovely to read. I will mention all the medications suggested. Im doing all I can at the moment, in regards to rehab I am not sure we have a free program in england.
Thanks again
Richard
Unfortunately I was let go from work. I was ok earlier but feeling very down now.
All the best
Richard
I’m so sorry. Hopefully this can be a fresh start all the way around? You can begin again at a job where they will only know the sober you, how nice will that be??
Don’t let the down cause you to drink! Stay strong
Sorry to hear about your situation…
Taking antibuse or any other type of medication can help, but only in conjunction with a program for quiting.
I talked to my doctor about it, and the statistics of getting sober, and staying sober with these drugs is very low.
Ultimately he felt that treatment programs have a better outcome overall with or without additional medication.
And, the biggest thing for anyone quiting an addiction is the honest desire to stop, or to want to stop.
Hi there
I will be also going through counselling alongside the anabuse. Im considering AA again but they have meetings that are not 12step based at the recovery service I am getting help from.
I managed 7months in 2016 so I just want a bit of help to get back there.
All the best
Richard
@Goose, the biggest and most impactful thing to me in your response was the last sentence. One has to look deeply within themselves to find that which you spoke of. I believe that is the reason this time has been so different for me. For me a relapse just isn’t an option moving forward.
Thank you
That’s what I was shooting for.
So sorry about your situation but as the others say starting over with a clean slate is a good thing. Don’t let this get you down. Everything will work out in the end you just have to stay strong and keep focused on you goal to stay sober. All the best to you @Rickwills
