Man am I experiencing some form of people pleasing or and I just yearning for friendship 🤔

The two buddies i recently been cool with both relapsed and continuing conversations i don’t really wanna be apart of. I wanna be a supportive friend in this trying time but I can’t afford to be knocked off my swivel for someone else.

I’m truly feeling fuckin amazing right now my mental ,physically ,financially I just wanna be apart of the winning team so I may have to move them to the side. Really focused right now.

We have to put our sobriety first even if it means stepping on some toes along the way. We can tell others how we feel and put the ball in their court to respect our new way of living but telling other addicts is unlikely to change anything because we all know what a selfish lot we are when in the depths of our own dispair. You just gotta do you.

You can be supportive of course, but yes I agree… from a distance. I had to do the same with old using friends. I HAD to focus on myself and my recovery 1st 🙂

That’s really tough and something most of us can relate to. It’s very difficult to separated yourself from people, places, and things that trigger our drinking. It’s an act of self preservation. If you’re vulnerable, maybe it’s best to keep a safe distance for now or explain that you’re doing some work on yourself and can’t be fully there for them at this time.

Winners often hang out at meetings, you might want to look there.

I’ve deleted contacts, socials, online chats, blocked numbers…

Anything that keeps me connected to those who pull me in to acting out.

As for close friends and family, I’ve told a couple of them what I’m trying to do, so that they can know not to expose me to triggering behavior.

Other than that, I gotta do what keeps me on the path of sobriety and freedom.

Lots of awesome, like-minded folks here. And, we’re rooting for you!
