Case Files from my Clinic

Yeah, so I wanted to create a topic where I can share some of the cool/horrific stories I’ve heard/seen out of my practice. Keeping HIPAA compliant of course. If anyone would like to ask me any questions, I am totally open to giving my “professional, but not acting as your doctor” advice.

Additional info, I work in a primarily Auto Injury/Personal Injury clinic. So, I see some bad stuff sometimes.

Interesting case from this last week. Patient presents with chest pain. Sleeps well, no referred pain into the arms, or shortness of breath. No changes in his blood pressure. Had been in a head on collision, both vehicles going g about 50 MPH. Airbag deployed striking him in the chest and face. Patient doesn’t complain of any other symptoms elsewhere, minor headaches, difficulty working in the fields due to chest pain.

After evaluation, I find that he has actually sprained/strained his neck and back with whiplash. I have him lay on his back to evaluate his chest. What do I feel? It feels like there is a bone sticking out of his chest, like he dislocated a rib or fractured a part of his sternum. All I could say was, “Ouch. Let’s send you out for X-rays.”

I’ll update you when I get a report back!

Ohh, I wish I had known you last year! Lol I was at a red light and someone rear ended me going 35+ mph. He was texting and driving. Anyway, he pulled over asked if I was okay, I said yes and we agreed to exchange information then he drove away! I had such bad lower back pain for 6 months!

Yeah. I didn’t know what to do. I had never been in an accident before. So, I just sat in my car and cried lol

Ha. I wonder how long it’s been like that in my auto correct.

Also, has no one else noticed that?

I hurt my back in gymnastics when I was 12, I didn’t have health insurance until I was 16. By that time I had atrophied the muscles on one side of my back and overworked the other side so much that it actually twisted my pelvis. One of my hips is still visibly higher than the other. My back pain is old enough to buy a drink at the bar.

@Englishd some of the kiddos I see say, “Miss Trinity is hippo compliant” :joy::rofl: or they call it other things :woman_shrugging:t3:

And @DungeonMaster although this is true, I wish I could go back and memorize his license plate number so I could’ve reported him :joy:

I’ve done chiropractic, massage, and physical therapy. I have bulging disks. I’m used to the pain. It doesn’t bother me much anymore, it’s just part of me now.

I have an old neck injury, shoulder issues, and low-back issues, all from my time in the Corps. Neck injury happened in bootcamp, while pressing footlockers over our heads. Shoulder’s are a combo of multiple momentary dislocations and use. Back is from carrying way too much crap in a pack, for too many miles, too many times. I was treated by a Chiropractor for about 2 years. Loved that traction table. Now, I treat everything with ice and turmeric whenever there’s a flare-up, lots of stretching and core strength exercises, and I have my daughter walk on my back every now and again. Thinks just pop back into place.

I’ve not seen a neurologist for my back, I have for the dislocation of my right arm that pulled a nerve which as result has given me limited function of 3 of my fingers. Also for my migraines… I get fun ones, without pain haha.

I’ve used an inversion table but I’ve never felt like it helped.

I have a bit of lordosis as well.

Well I’m about to land a job with really good health insurance

I wonder what my professional talking sober thread would be, my talents lie in organization due to my perfectionism and OCD, autism and related developmental differences, and hippy potions lol. I’m also super talented in behavior modification which is why I’m so happily married :joy:

Call your insurance comapany and make an uninsured motorist claim.

Oh, this was 13 months ago. And besides, my car has been recalled, so I don’t know if I’ll have that car for much longer :woman_shrugging:t3:

Depending on where you live you could have up to 3 years to make a claim. But now you know if there’s a next time. But hopefully there won’t be a next time!

She still has the car. She can call in a report, albeit it is obviously a delayed report, and as far as proof, well if there’s damage than that should suffice. It’s pretty hard for insurance to deny first party claim. Sounds like she’s doing better though so I it’s a moot point

Man insurance companies get a bad rap lol

No I was talking more so about auto insurance companies… let me guess… they are even worse? Lol! And I’m totally teasing you I’m a litigation specialist for a major auto insurer so I’m just having some sober fun

Hahaha! You are the bane of my existence! J/k as long as you’re not from USAA, I can deal with the rest of them!

So what did the X-rays say about your patient?
