I agree, just throw everything in there and let it do its thing. Everyone seems to be in the right way camp.
Just wondering what the “right” way is? How do you know if you are doing it the wrong way?
If you stack plates on top of each other and don’t let water in between the surfaces, what’s the point of even putting them in there?
I’m pretty flexible with it. For me the right way is just following common sense rules, not a specific formula.
- Leave enough space between dishes to get clean (e.g. don’t put two plates in one “slot”)
- If it’s not dishwasher safe, don’t put it in
- If it’s dishwasher safe but fragile, put it in the top
- If it needs a heavy “scrubbing”, put it in the bottom
- Don’t put a truly ridiculous amount of dishes in, I don’t like avalanches
- Put detergent in
- Dishes don’t need to be spotless going in but they shouldn’t be overwhelmed with gunk that an easy rinse under the tap would take care of
- If it’s not your house and there is a convention for cutlery handles facing up or down, follow it
- If it didn’t get clean in the dishwasher last time and you’re not putting it on a higher setting, wash it by hand
- Make sure no handles or knife blades are blocking the spinner or either dish rack from moving freely
It is surprising how much of the above gets ignored.
If that’s wrong, I don’t want to be right!
I’ll add, if you do it a different way and they come out clean, you still did it the right way. The “rules” are just in service of cleanliness. Just don’t blame the dishwasher if they come out dirty and you could have fixed it by loading differently.
While at my brothers house, I was helping fill the DW. How did I know I was doing it ‘wrong’, well …
a) he re-positioned every piece I loaded
b) he gave me looks that had me wondering if I’d unknowingly shit in the DW.
I follow @ifs approach
I’ve found that people seem to get crazy about their dishwashers.
I wash all my dishes by hand at home, but when at other peoples houses I’ve run into trouble loading their dishwasher.
You unload the dishwasher, you put away the last dish and realize the washer was never ran, do you:
- Don’t tell anyone and go about your day
- Re-wash all the dishes

It’s not a rewash if the dishwasher never ran
Well, all of the dishes would include the ones previously washed, so re-washing still applies
I dunno, ask my wife
I don’t know if there’s one right way (but some might be better ways). But can think of some wrong ways lol

C) “I didn’t really like this house anyway…”
Like the show cuz the theme song
This is actually the correct answer
I wanna change my answer to C.
I’ll go back to the office but eventually I have to come home and that sucker will still be there and who knows where it went while I was gone. Maybe it moved onto another room. Better off just burning the mother f**ker down.

Not sure if I’ve done this right. Last few times, I don’t recall having to select a user level/type…
