Think on it

I saw something the other day about recovery and abstinence. 1) is an alcoholic ever recovered and 2) what in your opinion is the difference

The difference between recovery and abstinence is just quitting vs dealing with all the issues that lead to becoming alcoholic, and increasing the odds that you wont go there again.

Right but by knowing the first drink will make your life unmanageable and knowing you can not have the first drink and you are just abstaining from that.

Intro to the first edition of “Alcoholics Anonymous” states that “we are…men and women who have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body.” That’s why I call myself a recovered alcoholic.

Recovered doesn’t mean I can safely drink. It means I no longer crave the first drink. I am well and whole and I have a purpose and a plan. I am no longer lost, frightened and purposeless.
