Well, I’ve now been 30 days without a drop of alcohol. I caught a cold from one of my kids so my spirits aren’t especially high, so bear with me. I’ll be going to get my license back today. It’s one more step forward through this mess I’ve made and yet I find myself empty. Not sad, or wishing for a drink or anything like that. I admit I’m nervous and acknowledging the challenge that will come with my new freedom to drive on my own again. Maybe I’m fooling myself, I don’t know. I don’t feel anything. Except sick, of course
. Thirty days would have felt impossible a month or so ago. I’ve got no plans for ending this sobriety in sight. I see the allure in alcohol advertising and music and movies and nearly everywhere. But I know that’s not reality. That’s what sells. I may feel nothing, but that nothing includes not feeling drunk, stupid, guilty, and ashamed. I’m right where I should be in this moment. Thanks for reading.
Congratulations on your 30 days!
This, right here, is gold…hold onto that…

Congratulations on 30 days. I find that in person meetings with others who understand what it’s like to get sober are really helpful. If I’m down, or craving, I can call someone from my home group. We help each other with practical things, too, and work the 12 steps together. Just sharing your feelings, like you did here, is so helpful among friends who get it.
Thank you for sharing that. I have these zoom meetings I have to attend right now and they are loosely helpful. It’s still good to see things from other perspectives. But I’ve had thoughts of continuing with meetings, and trying in person meetings once my required time is up and now that I’ve got a license again. So thanks for helping to solidify that decision ![]()
I’m glad you’re thinking about it. I don’t have to love everybody in my home group, but whoever syncs can be life saving. Literally.
