This should be an eye opener

I called in sick to work today. I’m not really sick, just don’t really have enough alcohol in my body, so that is going on. So I was driving into town, remember i called in sick, to get beer and I got pulled over for speeding. Stupid school zone a mile away from a school in the middle of nowhere. But I digress. I ended up getting a no insurance ticket because my insurance card is expired, even though it current. I should have gotten a ticket for 51 in a 25 but thankfully the officer was not in a ticket writing mood.
So here is they part where I should snap out of my bullshit. I get pulled over for this ticket. There are at least a dozen empty beer cans in the back seat from yesterday. I’m literally crapping myself trying to throw a jacket over the cans. She ended up giving me fix it ticket for my insurance card being expired , which I didn’t complain about, but I started thinking how lucky I was. I’ve already had a DUI which I am not proud of. I should have a second today just for being hungover, along with an open container charge and driving 21 over the speed limit.
I didn’t go to work, I already called in. But i did turn around abruptly and come straight home. I’ll deal with the consequences, of drinking and speeding, later. But for now I’m gonna be happy I’m not in jail like I should be

There’s been so many close calls for me as well and my husband. I’ve been sober for almost 10 days now and don’t plan on ever drinking again so I won’t be in that situation. My husband on the other hand loves his driving beer on the way home. He’s cut way back and is working hard to wait until he’s home before drinking. I’m going to share your story with him to encourage him to not drink and drive anymore. Glad you shared

I have been in that same situation at least 1 too many times. Congratulations on 10 days and I hope is 10 of 10000. I know how your husband feels, I also love road beer. I’m not perfect and never will be but if either of you need support send me a message…I know there will be a point where I need support as well.

That’s bad dude. Gotta learn from this stuff and know when to stop before you screw your life up even more. Your putting other people in danger too by driving so carelessly while drunk .

I know this gets said almost everywhere, but please, don’t drink and drive. It’s dangerous for yourself and everyone else on the road. Especially this time of the year.

Scary morning…sometimes the subtle hints given to us are enough to shake us pretty well before something bad happens. Don’t hang your head, just learn from it and don’t make the same mistake twice! Tomorrow’s a brand new day

I’m in no way condoning drinking in driving but that’s where I do most of my drinking. A scary thought but trying to tell someone in the depths of alcoholism “don’t drink and drive” is about as useful as “just don’t drink”. If it was that easy you wouldn’t have a forum

One night I hit up a bottle of rum, killed it. At 11pm I’m in my car on the way to the liquor store, I don’t remember even making that decision, but my senses finally came to me when the police lights hit the rear view. Arrested, car towed, and looking at my wife’s expression of shame when she came to bail me out, was an eye opener for me. I ended up not getting the DUI because my lawyer was useful, and I didnt do any of the roadside tests (chose silence). At the time it didn’t scare me enough to stop drinking but whenever I did go out, even for a refill, I got an Uber.
