Today in our country (USA)

Many are using this as an excuse to drink.

His presidency makes me feel like I need to be more alert and aware. I need a clear head right now to try to decipher what is happening.

I’m of no use to the resistance if I’m wasted.

@Elisabeth. Me too. It would have been a great excuse💜

Alcoholics tend to use anything as an excuse. So while yes, I agree, we would be using it as a reason to drink, really anything can be used. Today it rained where I’m at, I liked to drink when it rained. I drank when I had a difficult meeting at work, I drank if the people I train are stupid. I drank if my husband pissed me off, I drank because the sky is blue, etc.

Seriously kicks ass to not have to wallow in my drunken sadness because I don’t like Trump.

Today while at work I convinced myself that I was going to drink tonight, and drink until I couldn’t see straight. Luckily, I talked myself out of it before I actually got home.

What a sad day for this country. On Election Day I drank myself silly as I was watching results come in. I actually had to call out of work the next day.

Instead of that scenario, I am going to bed sober and waking up fresh in the morning and marching in Boston for Women’s Rights!! What a difference a couple of months makes :grinning:

I never thought I would get through today without drinking. I did and it is one more step towards gaining control of my life. Be safe marching tomorrow - I’ll be out there with you.

It’s not easy to feel unsure and afraid for the future… I am proud of you and everyone on here that is upset with the election for not drinking today! Democrat, Republican, or third party… this forum has brought us together for the same reason… and I am proud that we stayed sober through a rough year of lobbying, debates, and elections! Let’s accept what we cannot change and pray that we will all get through happy and sober with our loved ones! No matter who anyone voted for, addiction is our number one enemy here are let us all keep that our priority going into these times! It could be okay… it could not… but we will be sober through it all!!

I cried too … with happiness! Looking forward to a brighter future with the President that Americans voted for. We needed change and hope.

My husband is living/working in SD these days. Currently investigating a condo purchase. Any neighborhood suggestions?

@FeelingBetter, where is his job? You can PM me.

I need a little space to vent right now and I think this is a good place.

I’m upset with what I’m seeing on social media today. Those who are saying to leave Trump’s son out of all this madness are being attacked because Obama’s daughters were harassed. Can’t they see they are doing the same thing? No child should be harassed because of who their parents are!

Tons of nasty comments about Madonna. As if her sexualized persona takes away her right to be offended by a man talking about sexually harassing a woman! It makes me sick.

Man this sucks and is making sobriety that much harder. :unamused:

Yeah, social media and the news have been hard to take the last few days. I had to turn off the feed on a couple of people until things calm down so that I could still like them! I haven’t seen the specific things you mention but I only use FB, so maybe that’s why. Don’t drink! I’m sure things will calm down eventually. Hang in there - you can always come here to vent! I also have to limit which news shows I watch and how often. It isn’t easy for me either right now.
