Today’s ups and low

Today marks 60 days of sobriety, I’m extremely proud of myself, but about 3 weeks ago I finally got the courage to get my blood drawn after finally going to the drs and telling him the honest truth about my binge drinking and how I was maybe a month from my last heavy binge and how I was concerned, today however I was also told my blood work came back with high liver enzymes, I tried to be positive while waiting for the results but this has definitely brought me way down, they are re running test but I’m feeling pretty worried right about now

Did anyone else have this happen? Were you okay?

Hello Maggs.

I had some serious liver issues. I’m not a doctor, but you’d be amazed how well the liver can recover in time. You’re doing the right thing to quit drinking now.

Hang in there. Stay sober and take it easy on yourself.

Oh, and I’m okay. I had great care.

The liver is one of the most amazing organs in the body! It can regenerate itself. If there is scarring then the scars cannot be healed but the liver can recover to a functional and healthy state still! I just did my bloodwork recently and mine showed slightly elevated bilirubin in my blood so my liver is definitely stressed even without me binging. Some really good natural things you can use to help:

Beets/beet juice, livers love beets :root_vegetable: real beets not fake juices or chewy supplements

Milk thistle supports liver health and function also and I take that 2-3 times a day and you can get that over the counter

Try to stay away from super fatty and processed foods and generally speaking you should be okay

Thank you for the response nothing is worse than sitting with it in your brain and to ashamed to say it to anyone who isn’t an addict. I’m hoping my liver isn’t to far gone and if there is anything going on that it can recover

Happy to hear you are okay now and hoping to be sharing the same news to someone else in the future myself

I agree, the liver is an incredibly resilient organ. I was diagnosed with compensated cirrhosis in January 2024, and nearly two years later, I was diagnosed with HCC. Thankfully, the cancer was successfully treated in March 2026 with Y-90 radioembolization, and I am doing well now. Stay positive—it’s amazing what the body can overcome.

And I feel great.

Thank you so much for the positive response, I’ve tried taking milk thisle before and never sure if I get a good brand or if it’s doing anything really, I’ll definitely look into beets specially since I actually do enjoy them, do you just fit them into your diet when you can?

Thank you. I’m glad I can help you.

I know my mind was all over the place when I received the diagnosis. Changed my perspective on a lot of things.

Be kind to people. You don’t know what they’re going through. We’re all in this together.

I was fortunate to catch it when I did.

My mind can be my biggest enemy sometimes and I’m hoping for better results this second time

Your absolutely right, we’re all dealing with different struggles, I wish we could all slow down sometimes
