Triggers in early recovery

Seeing people drink on tv shows/movies, does this effect anybody else?

Definitely think I pay attention to it more now that I am trying to avoid drink at all costs… I’ve been watching a lot of documentaries that I know I won’t see it in it :joy:

It doesn’t effects me, but it can irritate me. What irritates me the most is advertisings for alcohol.

The problem is that it’s all around us in our everyday life. Unless you isolate yourself completely you will see it everywhere.
At the moment it’s probably best to not watch programs where it’s shown if it has that affect on you.
As you grow into your new life it will get easier and you will learn to ignore it because you will not be a drinker.

It doesn’t bother me but like @SoberWalker I find it irritating at times. My local supermarket are selling Prosecco sweets and beer branded toiletries for men. It’s a bit much really!!

As a porn/masturbating addict, i have a similar problem with woman in thongs, nude, leggings in movies, tv, videogames. I wish these trigers would dissaper as much as i wish the alcohol trigers would dissaper for you.

I don’t feel triggered when i see drinking on the tv but a bit wistful then i remember its all romantic, the sunset , the beach , the glass of wine but you never see the 8th glass of wine, the hangover, the dry mouth, the puking, the guilt and the anxiety of what did i do or say :smirk:

It’s why I stayed home and did nothing else other than kids stuff and hangout on the Forum the first few weeks.

I agree, I get frustrated when every other commercial during March Madness games is beer, sports bars, etc. It is not a trigger for me, but on the right warm Friday afternoon it might be. As a result, right now I have to prep myself to watch.
