Lately I have been watching squid game and rings of power on Amazon prime. ![]()
I feel like the advancement in special effects and film technology has actually made movies not as believable or good somehow. I don’t know how to explain it but the 90s have a crazy amount of good movies. Good is not even the right word more like exceptional. Also these days there seems to be way more action movies which I’m not big on that and also comedy movies that are not funny because everybody is afraid to get sued
Have you ever seen a movie called there will be blood? With Daniel Day Lewis. I’ve probably seen over 1000 movies and that’s not a joke and that’s probably my number one so far. It’s kind of slow starting in a sense but I think it’s amazing. But like I said film is about opinion just like favorite bands or genres of music. Also how you grew up and your environment And some other factors definitely play a role in what type of movies people usually go for
Oh yeah Shawshank redemption is in my top 10. I’ve seen that movie at least five or six times and I could watch it right now and I would be fully paying attention. Heat is really good as well. Al Pacino and Val Kilmer! And of course casino with Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci right? I always get Casino and good fellas mixed up
I’m going to write that down I have not seen that. Thanks for the suggestion. you like what you like. I’m not ashamed to Admit that I’ve definitely watched some romantic movies That I never thought I would’ve
I actually made a list of a bunch of my favorite movies on one of the movie threads I’ll try to find it and send it to you. I definitely would like to see which ones you’ve seen or what you like because we definitely have similar interest in movies and I can tell that you are definitely a movie fan
Thanks for the info I’ll definitely give it a shot. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a musical that I liked but there’s a first time for everything. I know sometimes when there will be a TV series and they’ll have an episode where it’s a musical and I’m thinking This is not necessary lol

Spoiler alert- downton abbey season 3
***Trigger warning- death
Damn I can’t believe Sybil died!!! That was probably one of the roughest and Emotional scenes I’ve ever seen in a tv show. I don’t know if you remember this episode but when she was getting ready to have the baby the two doctors were arguing and not agreeing on what to do and the new doctor said everything was fine but the old doctor thought she had elcampsia Which turns out she did after all. But she ended up having the baby and everything was fine but in the middle of the night she went into a fit of seizures in delirium and passed away with the whole family there. Tom kept saying “ Please don’t leave me” He kept saying that over and over! Damn that was a really tough scene and I did not see that coming. Sybil was probably one of my favorite characters in the show. She was the one that got away. Do you know what I mean? Like she was trying to live a regular life and experience new things outside of downton.. And all of these regular life experiences started when she was doing the nursing aid or whatever. And I don’t know if you remember but earlier in the show Sybil helped one of the girls get that secretary job. Sybil did a lot of good things for a lot of people.. Whether it’s TV or in real life it really is the good ones or good people that go. While the bad people or evil people stay alive. I know it’s just a TV show but I feel like I have to go for a walk now or something or go pray by the river At one of my meditations spots. That was crazy @HolySquid
Update, now into season 3 of Monk.
I no longer hate the Randy Newman theme. And I like that they still incorporate the original sometimes. I also LOVED that in s2 there was an episode with Sarah Silverman as a deranged fan of a tv show that was overly angry about her show changing the theme song
great wink from the writers to do that.
TIM EFFIN CURRY was in the episode I watched last night before bed.
Now I’m just dreading the forthcoming departure of Bitty Schram’s character (Sharona) and her coming replacement
its the only spoiler I went in knowing.
Oh i’m glad you are enjoying it and yeah it is cool that they did a shout out the theme song change. I do like that they do change it from time to time to go with whats happening on the show… won’t say more to not spoil it. Sarah is a wonderful character. Loved her craziness
The switch over from Sharona was not as hard as I thought it would be.
You have made me want to watch the show again - may start season one again.
Only 2 more episodes left!! Kinda sad to be honest. But I still have the movies and I think there is a bunch of extras in this DVD set I have. Probably some behind-the-scenes type stuff which will be interesting maybe interviews with the directors or something.
I’ll have to figure out what complete dvd set I will order next. So far in my collection I have the sopranos and downton abbey complete series. I think it’s cool to have physical copies of the show. There is so many potential good shows to order I don’t know how I’m going to pick but I’ll probably scroll through this thread and look online for ideas.
I could see myself ordering shameless, Mad men, or Sons of Anarchy. To Be honest I will probably own all three of those eventually and also a bunch of other things on that list of suggestions.. thanks For the ideas.
Just so you know. Pretty sure you will like the future new comer. Really I promise. I’ve seen every episode 3 or 4 times.
I’ve really enjoyed the two seasons released, and apparently season 3 is coming in the ‘fall’. Really smart, very pithy, absolutely scathing in it’s current social relatability and depiction of political witchcraft… And it’s truly genuinely funny. Can’t wait for next season.
Worth a watch!
Also, this is phenomenal. Pardon the cringe pun, but it’s a real slow burn ![]()
Absolutely mind bogglingly good. You need to watch each episode with complete absolute attention and not binge watch it. Dennis Lehane greatness. I’m hooked and half way thru it.
I’ve been binge-rewatching Benidorm, what a show ![]()
It always makes me sad when a series comes to an end. You kinda live the lives of those characters for a while and it leaves a little void when it ends.
But on a good note: Downton Abbey didn’t get cancelled half way through. I like that the producers bring it to a close with the movies.
If you want some more British stuff: Life on Mars is an underrated gem. It must already be 20 years old, but it’s great. And then there is Sherlock - the BBC production with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. Here each episode is like a feature length movie.
And then there is Call the Midwife… one of my favourites, although rather on the cheesy side. It might still be running. Has been for years and years. It starts in the 50s in a deprived London area… the attention to detail in costume and in scenery makes it! And it’s loosely based on the memoirs of a midwife working during the 50s/60s.
