I’ve used a tarp in the past ot was ok, but switched to a hammock, but now am looking in getting tent, specifically a trekking pole tent.
I’ll get some pictures of my current set up tomorrow. I am pretty sure its a little over 13 lbs now.

Lovvvvved my trek pole tent! Best purchase ever
I shan’t say how much I was lugging around yesterday!
My packs are the REI flash 45 (black) and Flash 62 (green).
The orange compression bag holds my hammock setup (220g fuel cannister for scale) .
The hammock setup is hammock, straps, bug net, rain fly and underquilt.
Then my mess kit is primus classic and a toaks 500ml titanium cup.
Microspikes and my new klymit air pad.
And finally the REI groundbreaker 2p tent.
I have some options, depending on needs. I can use the smaller pack for an over nighter with the hammock or tent. Not seen are my sleeping bags. I have a 15° and a 35°. The latter packs smaller.
So. Where ya goin?
Yeah, I can see myself there!!
I’m already planning for summer!
I really really want to do the Wonderland trail (it circles Rainier) before I’m too old. I need a hiking buddy tho… wink wink
Oof, 93 miles. Need a week or two, and probably as many resupplies.
This looks gorgeous though.
Yeah, 10 to 14 days and several caches along the way. You can mail supplies to the various ranger stations around there, they store them in big bear proof bins.
I also would like to do the PCT from Oregon border to Canada! But I doubt I’d be able to make it that far.
That sounds like a great plan. I wonder if that sort of thing is available here? There’s several walks that can be done over several days but it’s the thought of all the extra stuff to carry.
Mind you, with all the type of stuff I’ve been doing lately, one would have thought that I’d have picked up on the self subsistence ethos.
Remembered I had used lighterpack.com to build this chart. You can make and share gear lists freely there. Though the meat of mine is in a spreadsheet for planning trips. Helps to have as a check list when getting ready.
It’s a little out of date but still pretty accurate.
Gear: Misc stuff like head lamp, med kit, patch kit, etc.
Shelter: Tent and light footprint
Sleep: Bag and pad
Pack: Gossamer Gear Mariposa
Kitchen: Cooking stuff
Water treatment: That was a UV kit, but using a light filter now. Plus back up chemical treatment of course.
Clothes: For sleep, weather, spare undies, etc. This fluctuates but includes the necessities.
Consumables: I plan and weigh out for each trip of course.
Haha, I’ll have to do this for my basic kit. See how we compare.
Nice! I found my list of weights and input them in a spreadsheet.
Option 1 is hammock with the larger pack
Option 2 is the Trekking Pole tent (comes in a week!) with smaller pack
Clothing weight is estimate, (rain shell, warm layer, shirt, pants, undies and socks).
H2O is a Sawyer Squeeze and a 2L collapsible Hydrapak
Yknow. You called out water kit as H20. Which actually… made me think.
I always carry half a liter (~1 lbs) more than I think I’ll need before I get to more and almost never use it. I should really include it in my base.
This linkie no workie anymorkie, bud! What’d you get again?
I got this guy.
Huh. A double walled trekking pole tent.
See something new everyday.
I’m excited to give it go. It is about a 1/3 the size of my other tent and maybe half (if not more) the volume of my hammock rig. This means I can use my 45L pack for multi day hikes without sacrificing food.
Yooo, just remembered this tent you posted but it isn’t listed anymore. How did that work out?
