Hello,
I stopped drinking 3 days ago. I am prescribed 1 and 1/2mg of Klonopin for sleep. I didn’t take them before because I would just binge drinking every night until I passed out for a few hours. I started taking them but 2mg instead to help. Asking for advice or thoughts about this method/choice.
Thanks
Thats how I did it too. I used the benzos for the first 30 days, then stopped. That gave me enough time to work on habits and really commit. By the way, I slept a lot, especially the first 20 days, like 10 hours or more a night.
After that I stopped taking them, mostly out of fear of addiction, and was perscribed some hydroxyzine which I’ve taken 2 times in the last 29 days. I am at 59 days and feel great.
Thank you for the response, I am very sleepy too but don’t have the time to sleep. Between being a mom and work full time and school part time it’s challenging. I’m starting to feel better and focused already but when night hits is when I struggle the most. I try to do a lot of cooking and stay engaged in playing with my kid until he goes to bed. That seems to be helping for now. And as silly as it sounds my kid and I play Pokemon go and have been obsessivley playing it helps distract my thoughts.
Gotta catch em all, I am working on filling my pomedex too (with the kids of course)
When I was an inpatient it would be a commonplace thing for alcoholics and addicts to have a very short term benzo taper in order to help them with Acute withdrawal (detox) symptoms.
Klonopin is a sedative benzo, so that may be why you feel sleepy. I know people who have been prescribed it, and they were told to take it at bedtime for this reason.
Congrats on getting through it, though I am sure some may say a medically supervised detox is a much safer option. Which is what I ended up needing, and boy did I need it. Going on 4 months no alcohol now.
