I’m an organization representative payee (basically accountant). Helping people with disabilities manage their finances.
I love my career being doing for 20 years. Before that restaurant management which I was real good at but the hours were brutal.

I used to bartend at an Irish bar in the late 80’s. I still know some of my customers from those days.
I loved that job. Different times.

I have worked five days a week 8 AM to 4 PM For the last year at my restaurant. I don’t think I could go back to night shifts now. It’s so much better for so many reasons and when you’re working nights at restaurants it’s even harder to unwind at night time And by the time you get everything done it’s like 2 o’clock in the morning or even later. Going forward I’m going to make sure I always have a job that’s in the morning.
Ps: I have thought of getting into the catering side of my job. I probably could have the same schedule depending if there’s enough events available
Yeah I’m definitely going to have to step out of my comfort zone I have the option to start as a prep cook anytime I want because of the way I’ve been hustling as a dishwasher and helping out other areas even when they don’t ask. I’m the type of worker that doesn’t wait to be told to do something I’m always finding stuff to do. I’m just not used to standing in one spot for a long time and like you said I probably would have to also work nights possibly. Even as a prep cook I might have to work nights. They said they would train me obviously and I would just need to develop some basic knife skills before which I actually bought a book. I plan on going back to school in October or November but it wouldn’t be bad to learn some other skills in the restaurant and have something to fall back on. They said I’m always guaranteed 40 hours so I guess the hard work has paid off
I already made notecards of the menu And the ingredients in the meals and entrées/sandwiches or whatever and learned it a couple months ago so I already have a little bit of a jumpstart. And I’ve also had some conversations with the current prepcooks about what the daily tasks are or things to prep
It’s just fear of something new and it’s totally in my head
My father was a Psychiatrist. It takes a certain person to become a nurse. They are Saints.
God Bless you for being a nurse.
That’s so nice, thank you!
My husband went through something like that. He has cirrhosis (caused by drinking) and is unable to work. We applied for disability but it took 3 years to get approved. During that I time I was working 2 jobs 7 days a week to pay the bills. It took a toll on his mental health no being able to provide or even help me.
Im sorry to hear that your husband is unwell and you have worked so hard to keep the ship up above water. I understand how he feels and my Partner like you works hard to support me and the children. Alcohol has effected me diffent than your husband in that i have damaged peripheral nerves it seems. Im 45 years old and have watched my family grow around me while i battle through my missery. However i have the mental health under control and hopeful to keep pushing forward and getting back to some kind of work. I doesnt have to pay well just being able to contribute something would be good. I wish your husband, you and your family all the very best you deserve it.
Thank you for sharing
I wish you and your family the absolute best and pray for your continued strength ![]()
I’m a truck drivin’ son-of-a-gun! I work for a major chain of thrift stores (Goodwill Industries). Great company to work for and they treat their employees well. Really happy there.
Awesome! I was in the industry (arcade game side) as well unti I changed industries.
At my last job, I cooked in a retirement home that also prepared Meals on Wheels meals. I worked 6am-2pm and loved it (once I got used to it)! So much of the day left! Now, I don’t have a flat rate and rely on an 18% service charge for 2/3 my income. I’d loved to work days all the time, but there’s much more to be made on dinner prices, so I start around 3/4pm ![]()
That’s so dope
I’m an arborist during the week, trimming, cutting down, and planting trees, doing mulch and other landscaping etc. And during the weekends, I am a concessions supervisor at an MLB stadium during baseball season and an NFL stadium during football season.
This is really awesome!! These are both really cool jobs. Especially the concessions supervisor for MLB games. I used to go to Camden yards The Orioles stadium when I lived in Pennsylvania because it was an hour drive to Baltimore. Where I live in Florida there really isn’t a MLB stadium close enough to drive At least for a day trip. But it’s all good the Jaguars stadium is very close so that’s cool. Not sure if you’re able to really watch or listen to the games when you’re working though.. Obviously cause you’re working
Yeah i dont get too much time to watch the games usually I just get to watch little bits on the tvs they have hung up when I am eating or taking a smoke break, or to check what inning it is lol, during the football games I get a little more time its more busy before the game and during the first half but most of the second half I am able to watch in the office on tv, I can go inside the seats if I want but it is so loud and people are so rowdy its more comfortable in the office and easier to deal with things that pop up
Data analyst, although I’ve largely outsourced my work to ChatGPT these days.
I am a regional fire alarm system inspector for a big chain of healthcare.
I am a welder and love my job. Some days are better then others and as I am starting out to not pick up a drink let me tell you the struggle is real
