Whats your favorite holiday or day of celebration and why? and how do you celebrate

I too love Thanksgiving for the food and family / friends get togethers - it’s a close second to Halloween for me.

I’d have to say I guess Christmas, not for me tho. But for my girls, and pretending to be Santa clause and making foot prints in the house and putting cookies out and then seeing their faces the next morning is priceless as they rip throufh all the presents. Can’t beat it

Holloween.

People get to come out and have fun

Mostly, this one Halloween my wife and i set up at the end of the driveway and we were having good clean fun
I was asking each kid are you a trick or a treat
And it was funny
Then
This kid comes up , not yet looking up i said are you a trick or a treat then when i looked up it was a kid dressed as snow white
My wife and i had a good laugh

But then. , this little old man comes up, there was a lady with him, supposedly his daughter.
She says, this is the only day my dad can leave the nursing home.

That made it super nice. So i asked him, are you a trick or a treat

He just smiled and said I’m a treat.

The lady came by the next day and said he was so happy last night. He passed away that morning and he was smiling. Holding his bag. His daughter said he wrote a note, telling his daughter that he got a good treat.

And the treat was he got to be a kid for one more day.

That’s why Halloween is my favorite

Thanksgiving! Food, Family, Gratitiude! And not the huge multi month capitalistic grab bag of shopping culture surrounding it. I love the whole fall. While I’m not one for dressing up personally, I also love Halloween and just the Fall-y color changing leaves, crisp campfire scent, hot apple cider, pumpkin pie, haunted hayride, all things witchy time of year

Yes Fall and all that it brings…so much warmth and happiness in one season!
Its impressive how just reading words takes me back to sitting by a campfire and enjoying hot apple cider (can taste it and feel the coziness).

It’s that time of year where it’s acceptable to be excited for Halloween and decorations have begun.

Started with a little area today while watching Annabelle :heart::jack_o_lantern::ghost: the skull plays Halloween theme song …that music still gives me goosebumps :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Christmas all the decorations and pretty lights. And quiet evening with a warm fire in the fireplace. Good food and hanging with immediate family (with no drama- we keep it to only family that we hangout with during the year)

For me, Thanksgiving is my holiday epitome. Gratitude for being in recovery, ya know?

I love it…all… yep Halloween always been my favorite. Monsters, Ghosts and Witches OH YA. Slasher films not so much…I love the classics Wolf Man, Dracula and all vampires (New teen ones NOT), Witches and Ghosties (The Changeling was great) Oh Yes. Poltergeist - I can watch over and over. The Mummy even the the new ones… When sober always dressed up, played scary music, watched movies and handed out candy. Last 10 years have not lived anywhere where kids would come. Where I live now the whole down town (all businesses) decorate and give out candy on Halloween. So fun just to watch all the families (parents dress up too) travel from business to business. Even the Post Office gets involved. This year plan to get there early dressed up (Witch of Course) with a lawn chair, cauldron of candy and find me the perfect spot to haunt and enjoy.

Thanksgiving comes next as I love to cook. Love the house smelling of food and cinnamon. This year will be in Hawaii for Thanksgiving. I am so looking forward to this trip…

My favorite holiday is called Түшүм майрам or tysym mairam. It is a Harvest Holiday celebrated in the fall. As a village we gather together this day in large groups and everyone brings a portion of their harvest: grains, fruits, vegetables or the finest meat if you are a shepherd. And we have a big party together which involves eating a lot of food, drinking a lot of tea. Usually we have a story teller or tell riddles. We play games. You stay for some time at one house and then move to the next until you have visited everyone and given your harvest gift to each host.
The host collect the harvest gifts and on the following day we visit the poorest in the village to give them these grains, fruits and vegetables. It is my favorite holiday because it is a generous holiday. We have fun together but we then help our neighbors or those in the community who need it.

@Von100 ooh I do love the Christmas decorations. I drive around and check out different neighborhoods… the lights really do help lift the spirit during the cold gloomy days

@bobslife Thanksgiving is my 2nd favorite. It is a great day to remind us of being grateful and thankful and yeah I do love the food part too

@tailee17 love the idea of getting together as a town in the business district to celebrate. A spooky spot to haunt? That’ll be fun. Would love to see pictures when the time comes. I now watch all sorts of Halloween/ scary movies trying to frighten myself. Seems that in past 5 years or so I no longer scare as easily as I used to
@laner thanks for sharing this holiday. Wow! How absolutely beautiful. I love how connected you all are and this is such a beautiful way to celebrate humanity.
