When someone is on methadone

Okay folks, so i ALWAYS have folks talking smack about me being on methadone. That I’m not sober and I’m still active in my addiction.

I’ve been to 2 different rehabs. I’ve tried over 30 times or so to quit on my own and I never make it more than 5 or 6 days. So I went and got put back on methadone. Been on it for about 6ish 7 months now. And it works wonders with me.

Now I’ve relapsed here and there because mentally shit gets to heavy to deal with sometimes and even know it’s been 8 years, I’m still dealing with my Dad’s suicide.

And my transmission went out in my car, then my mom’s car broke down so I’ve been having to depend on 1 or 2 people to take me to the clinic every morning and to work then home. Asking people for help makes me feel less than ya know. Like im nothing. It makes me feel so freaking bad. So for the 4th maybe 5th time in the past 7 months, I said F it yesterday and skipped my dose and tried to get a head change. But taking my.dose everyday for so long, I just wasted my money. And now I feel terrible for giving in like that.

I guess what I’m getting at, what are yalls thought about methadone???

Id use it like a crutch, just till i could get back on my feet and try not to become too dependant on it because id just keep on with it. Maybe try finding a solid support group to help with urges when the times get rough. What ever it takes to get over our addiction, help keep us from using utilize the tools we can stop our DOC can be beneficial.

Some people just don’t get it. When you have a headache, you take Ibuprofen. When you have nausea you take Pepto. When you have addiction, you take Methadone or Vivitrol (like me!) Medication is a good thing. Good on you for knowing what YOUR body needs, don’t let anyone judge or guilt you. If they do, they have no clue. Healthy and clean doesn’t look the exact same for everyone, but as long as you’re doing it you’re doing good :sparkles:

Good for you to be in a program and working on your sobriety. I think the issue is not what everyone thinks about methadone, but that you need to address the fact you still reach for your doc to “deal” with stuff. You know as good as me that’s not how it works, neither sorbiety nor life.

What do you need to add to your recovery to make it stick? Maybe give NA a try? Wish you the best!

I dont have any first hand experience with any of that, my mom however was on that or something similar to get off oxycontin. It helped her from getting dope sick, which was terrible to witness.

If that’s what it takes, than that’s what it takes.

Also, welcome back man, I’ve always wondered where you went. Glad you’re back.

In my opinion… people need to honestly mind their own business. This is YOUR recovery, not theirs. Some people love to “take other peoples inventory” and in reality they don’t have alot to say if your doing something that helps you to stay off drugs. I know some people who used to do hard drugs but have gone thru a harm reduction approach and they have never touched their DOC. This in turn has saved their life and they have made huge progress in their quality of life. For me, I had to abstain from all drugs in order to recover. I seriously can’t use anything bcu I will go back to using my DOC 3x harder than what I was doing previously. I was offered the methadone program many many years ago and I did refuse it for my own personal reasons. The withdrawal was awful to say the least. BUT… I have been prescribed various medications to help with the side effects and damage done due to other DOCs in my past and even those I would get comments, that I wasn’t truly sober or that I wasn’t truly doing recovery bcuz I was being assisted in helping me to stay clean at that time. It used to bug me…but I had to stop caring what people think. Bcuz at the end of the day, I am the one that has to be okay with myself and my recovery. I honestly would rather be on a methadone program (which may take quite some time to step down from), then use drugs. And I do know of people who have gotten themselves off of methadone slowly and safely. So it IS possible. People just need to stay out of other people’s business lol u do you and whats safe for you

I’m almost to my 2 year anniversary on the good old Methadone. And I’m telling you, that crap will NEVER stop. But you my friend have the power to stop them from filling your head full of crap that they have no idea about. And that’s just it. NO IDEA just how horrible being addicted to the almighty opiate is.

In the two years I’ve been in the clinic atmosphere, I’ve pretty much come back from the dead. Walking in there at the beginning? The people who barked in my ears would say…“Time to go get your free high” “Time to get messed up again”. I HATED IT. But I decided to make every comment my stepping stone. I had to do something or I really wanted to just smack em all!! That’s just what I did. I went from walking out of prison doors to being one of the first female Cell Tower Auditor Specialists in towers 250 feet tall and above. And honestly? If it wasn’t for the option of methadone? I’d be dead. I couldn’tdo it without help. I tried way too many times…NOW???

I went from one dollar in my account to keep it open, (we all know how expensive our habits got) to my own house, newer car, and saved money in the bank. My daughter is my fire and drive to keep going. Being able to function, be a great mom to an INSANE pre teen, and be successful? Thank you Methadone. Some of those people even work FOR me now. Oh how tables can turn.

They can mind their business. Take your recovery and run YOUR RACE. All the absolute best to you.

I’ll keep it short and to the point

Is methadone working for you?

Are you taking it as prescribed?

Then fuck them your sober,

I hate that stupid if your take medications that can have mind altering affects your not sober.

Yeah I smoke cigarettes, I drink coffee, I also take lithium all mind altering drugs, without that trifecta I may cut you,

So am I Sober? I don’t drink alcohol or use drugs, I would say so and so would others.

Fuck what everyone thinks, you do what’s best for your sobriety, and what is the best treatment plan based on medical professionals advice not some high and almighty big book thumper who still views the 50s as the future

I support MAT. That being said I hope your doctor has been up front with you about long term side effects (including how hard it is to get off). I know too many people who have been put on methadone and suboxone without being informed about the addictive nature of both treatments.

There are a lot of misconceptions about methadone number 1 you don’t get high off methadone all it does is help with the cravings methadone has saved my life the clinic I go to I also have to attend weekly group meetings and weekly one on one counseling also weekly random drug test I would recommend methadone to anybody who is battling with opioids

Actually it’s possible to get high off both methadone and suboxone. Also if you were to stop taking it tomorrow you would go through horrible withdrawals. I really hope your provider told you all this ahead of time. I support MAT, work for an agency that provides MAT and have done crash tapers on MAT in rehab. But I have also abused methadone and suboxone and subutex.

What is your long term plan for the MAT? I would not recommend staying on methadone for life. Suboxone would be easier on the body for that

Well of course if you abuse methadone then ur not taking it as prescribed I take 85 mgs everyday and I get no euphoric feeling at all but I’m on my proper dose when I decide that I’m ready to stop taking it and I’m confident I won’t relapse I ween down 5 mgs per week until I’m off but I’ve tried everything to get off fetenayl and this is the only thing that worked for me that’s why I support methadone as part of a recovery program

That’s awesome you have a taper plan in place already. Puts you in a good spot.

I’m 31 days tofaybat 4pm CT off an 8 year stint at thr clinic… it did save my life I feel but I should of never been on it 8 years just to stop my withdrawl symptoms. I’ve never kicked anything so fkn evil in my life. Went 27 days not sleeping more then 2 hours a night…and so much worse … if they had told me this I would of kicked on the streets…it’s by far the worst thing I’ve ever experienced. I can’t even describe it… get off while you can… pay the price you owe for using and don’t look back.
