When the dust settles, remembering recovery

You joined a month before me 7 years ago and we’re both still here :slightly_smiling_face: took a while for myself to get it but 6 of those years I’ve been sober I hope things are working out for you as you would have hoped.

Things are going good here. I’ve learnt so much and continue to carry on learning. I come here everyday!. I love my sober life, it’s still life on life’s terms but it’s so much easier sober. It’s the peace that I love the most. When I was drinking I felt like my mind was always buzzing, you know? Like a constant vibration running through me all the time. So frustrated and stuck. I don’t know when it happened exactly but the vibration/buzzing stopped! I could finally stop and find peace. Who knew that the thing I leant on so much for quieting my mind was actually causing the problem!?! Fuck addiction! :face_with_hand_over_mouth: I’m 7 years and 24 days sober. I’m never ever going back!! I will continue to work on my recovery every day x

Going through moments which is progress because a couple of weeks ago, actually I can’t put into words how I was a couple of weeks ago but today is better than that. Thanks for asking :slightly_smiling_face:

The worm has turned - In early sobriety there is a common consensus that we have to be selfish and put our sobriety first so that we don’t put everyone else second and along the way we try and help others bc by helping others we are ultimately helping ourselves, keep up it gets simpler.

So we’ve done this and further on down the road we’ve decided to make a few improvements to ourselves like new hobbies, join the gym, diet you know the stuff, slowly in the background our outlook of life, people, places and situations begin to change and for the first time in years and maybe ever we have real emotions to deal with. We don’t all have the tools to deal with life on life’s terms and some will find it harder than others. 6 years in and I’ve developed a strong sense of what I believe to be wrong from right, I’ve also developed a feeling of empathy that I never used to have and right now it’s not a good thing. People I know are going through hard times and I seem to have attached myself to their problems and it’s bringing me down.

I think it’s time to show myself the same amount of compassion I try and show others, I think I need to accept that right and wrong may vary in opinion from what perspective your entering the situation and my opinion is not the only valid one.

It’s good to offer support to others but don’t spread yourself to thinly, be kind to others but make sure you are still being kind to yourself. We don’t have to take the weight of the world on our shoulders we’ll only put ourselves in danger carrying such a burden.
