Why do we call it Fall?

One of my most favorite people in the world, Reverand Nancy Ferriani, gave a sermon I think about a lot this time of year. It was called “Why Do We Call It Fall?”

She described the process by which trees lose their leaves. They do not simply fall, they are pushed! The trees release an enzyme that literally pushes the leaves off from its tree branches.

She argued we should rename Fall, Push. And like the trees, we should all push ourselves… push away things that are bad for us, push away old regrets or feuds, push ourselves to be kinder, to have a better understanding of God and of each other.

I love that. So Happy Push, my friends. If it no longer serves you, push on.
