Why I hate the saying "Good Luck"

I hate the term, with a passion.

I can’t tell you how many times I heard it when I left rehab. I do know that people were just saying positive words as you leave, but I cringed every time I heard it.

Because luck has nothing to do with recovery, or anything we personally do for that matter. It all comes down to your will and desire to quit whatever you are doing. Making the right choices in bad situations. Telling yourself the old you was not a good you, and the new you is who you want to be.

If we fail, it’s not due to bad luck, or being unlucky. It was due to a bad decision.

If you do fail, it’s fine, just dust yourself off and try again. You will succeed, if you have the honest desire to quit your addiction. The key word is honest.

So if someone says good luck, just smile and tell them you don’t need luck, just the will and support.

I agree with you! In my meetings they have never wished me luck… I think it would have made me cringe as well because you’re right… it’s not about luck.

You might of wrapped up the main theme of my post in a neater package. :+1::smiley:

One thing I realized too, if you can beat an addiction, there should be almost nothing in this world you can’t accomplish within your abilities.

I’m only at 45 days, so I think I can’t officially say I’ve beaten it though.

Willpower is my success at this moment. Willingness is my Key.
