I wish you would post more often again. Since I joined TS in may '23, I’ve taken a lot of pages out of your sobriety book. Your no-BS approach resonates with me.
Thanks for that 😊

People quite often do not like to hear, what they need to hear. I bet there will be someone waking up in 2025 with a hangover and regret thinking “I wish I listened to Englishd”

Your posts will never impact every reader in the way you’d like. But at least you’ve impacted a Squid 😃

Waking up on the 1st of Jan without a hangover may just be the best feeling in the world. 😁

While I was using sobriety as a way to learn how to drink “properly” and with control, no sir, I did not like what you had to say. Now that I am going to meetings, have a sponsor, work the steps and want to live a life in recovery. I wait patiently for you to drop some nuggets of the kind of advice I need to hear.

That said I will be at an AA Meeting and then home on Tuesday night, reading, posting here and getting my 2025 bullet journal ready to go!

This always needs bumped.

Just because you went to a bar once and didn’t drink is not a reason to go again. I still get surprised how cavalier people get with their sobriety. They talk about how badly they want sobriety, but apparently not badly enough to avoid temptation for a few months. I guess all those relapses are good learning tools for someone else.

With the holidays quickly approaching I would like to remind everyone in early sobriety that, no, you are not strong enough to go to the office holiday party at the bar. Your family would appreciate you not being a drunken mess this Christmas (unlike the last 3 or 10 years).

Some tips for NYE:

1. Going to the party is a bad idea in early sobriety.
2. NA champagne is a bad idea.
3. Thinking you can have NA champagne at the party means you want to relapse.
4. being the DD won’t keep you sober, it will just get you arrested.
5. I don’t care it’s your favorite holiday, if you stay sober this year you can celebrate many more.
6. No, you are not the exception to any of these rules

Following these suggestions won’t hurt you, but ignoring them might kill you.

Bumping… so much gold in this thread.
Of course, there will be some that think they’re the exception. Hopefully, they’ll make it back to post their day one.

I don’t want to go back to day 1 . I work on avoiding that every day.

I certainly thought I was the exception many times. And have been here in this forum proving that I certainly could not drink.

Thank you for this. Back on day 7 after chucking away 2 years of sobriety. Thankfully it didn’t take me long to find my way back here. This thread is a great reminder.
