Welp. Gonna have to postpone cutting down my olive tree/olive shrub at the base. A family of rabbits is living in there. Pretty sure they’re living in a hollowed-out part of the tree, but the shrubby part gives them cover. I could never kick them out. They are very welcome.
So Waldo gets to keep his hidden poop-eating spot for now 😟
Look at how this baby is lying in the shade! She’s so small and I’m glad I didn’t dusturb her.

Eating poop? Normal is debatable but it’s not uncommon. He knows he’s not supposed to but he’s smart and knows if he hides behind there, I can’t see him. It drives me up the fucking wall, lol.
I usually train it out of my dogs altogether, but Waldo has probably been the most challenging dog I’ve had in regards to training, period. I have had and trained dogs myself for most of my life, but Waldo is the first rescue/the first that has a bunch of trauma in his past so he’s very sensitive and I think he’ll always have some degree of anxiety. Entirely different ballgame working with a dog with trauma. I never yell at my dogs unless they are about to put themselves in danger (thankfully can count those instances on one hand), but even the “stern voice” I use to discourage certain behaviors - which has worked very well for Chief over the years - is triggering for him and he thinks he’s going to be hit or yelled at or whatever his previous owners did to him - even ~3 years into our time. The positive reinforcement when he does well helps, but he doesn’t quite make the connection of “praise for this = good boy, so don’t do the opposite”. The good and bad behaviors are in silos.
All of that to say, there’s a reason he’s not allowed to lick my face.

Give him big comforting hugs from me 🫂 Sorry for what he has gone through to still be carrying that with him now. Grateful he has found such a loving and safe space with you. From all your pics he for sure is one happy guy 🤗

I was lucky enough to see the first confirmed California condor in Wyoming seen in 80+ years. I spoke with the DNR and apparently it was a young condor and likely lost. Sitting on top of a mountain peak in the snowy range.
