Withdrawal nightmares

Oh my god, what is up with these nightmares? I had a dream last night that I was drinking a beer, and suddenly realized I’m actually in recovery. I ran straight to the sink to pour out the remaining half bottle :person_facepalming:

What level of nightmares have we reached lol

Welcome to the forum! Glad ur here!!!
Yes those “using/drinking” dreams can be highly disturbing. I used to get them often in early recovery… now not so much, in fact its quite rare. Its usually when ive had a particularly stressful/emotional day, thats when they occur. Its like my mind is still trying to “cope” with these uncomfortable emotions thru my subconscious. Thankfully they are dreams (or nightmares I should say lol).

How long have u been in recovery for?

Those drinking dreams suck. I used to get them more in early recovery and I’d wake up terrified that I broke my sobriety. My experience has been that they start to subside though and sometimes if I have a dream with alcohol now even dream me refuses it. Kinda neat lol

Welcome to the community!

Totally sucks having those realistic using / drinking dreams. That empty feeling in the pit of your stomach that doesn’t go away when you wake up is also hard to deal with. The saving grace is knowing that you remain sober.

Keep working your recovery - the dreams do go away and your sobriety gets stronger :hugs:
