Anyone here likes writing, but doesn’t have the self-discipline to keep going on their own right now? Creative writing can be such a nice distraction from the bad stuff in life, so I’d love to start a round of “writing in turns”.
We choose a random prompt, then we take turns adding to the story.
When it’s your turn, write as much as you like but at least one sentence, then tag the next person in the participants list.
Rules for the text:
third person, past tense
no triggering stuff
no reversing of something another participant’s just written
Please let me know if you’d be up for this little project, I think it could be fun and a welcome distraction.
So we are 10 participants. When it’s your turn (you were tagged), write as much as you like but at least one sentence, then tag the next person in the list.
Rules for the text: third person, past tense, no triggers, no reversing something another participant’s just written
Prompt:
The rain pattered softly against the windows of the old, creaky library, where Arthur had spent countless evenings poring over ancient manuscripts. That night, a peculiar chill hung in the air, as if the books themselves whispered secrets from centuries past. He’d stumbled upon a faded leather-bound volume, its pages yellowed with age, hidden behind rows of dusty tomes. The book, curiously untitled, seemed to beckon him, promising mysteries untold. As Arthur opened it, a small, intricately carved key fell out, landing silently on the worn wooden floor. @acromouse
Arthur tried to reach the small key from his seat, but instead of getting hold of it, he pushed it further under his desk. With a sigh he got out of his plush chair, got on all fours and tried to find the little thing. His room was - apart from his desk lamp - not well lit and he had trouble spotting the elusive piece of metal. Arthur decided to go by touch, feeling his way over the old wodden floor on all fours deeper under his desk. Suddenly he felt a sharp pang in one of his fingers. ‘Probably a splinter’ he thought, and sucked on the pain. He tried to get up to take care of the wound. With a bang he hit his head on the desk and lost consciousness. @Mischa84
Unfortunately, it wasn’t just a splinter. When Arthur opened his eyes, he was in completely other place. He was shocked, cause he’s never seen anything like this before. @Lezourez
Everything was beige with a bright pink outline and all in 2 dimensions even his finger that had swollen to the size of a basket ball, which strangely wasn’t beige but sky blue pink, was flat as a pancake. Was this a dream or a hallucination brought on by the extra pint of maple syrup he had in his porridge? @Deelzebub
It was as if there was a veil like curtain of colour hanging in front of him but when he reached his good hand to touch it he found he could pull the veil aside to see that his cosy library was still there, the beautiful key on the floorboards just out of reach.
He felt as if whatever had pricked his finger had opened up an additional realm and that he had the choice as to which one he could reside in. @Alex7
As Arthur stood in the magical, multi-colored dimension, he noticed the key start to produce a beaming, golden glow. Arthur stretched his left arm for the radiant key and was sucked back into reality as if he had traveled through a worm hole. As he held the key, he felt a resonant vibration in his hand as if the key were alive. In that instant, the mysterious book, still on top of the desk, started to shake as the pages turned violently. Arthur, crouching under his desk, stood up to see the book come to an abrupt stop. He peered in closer to read the bold Sanskrit letters of the ancient text, “Seeker Beware”. @Nomad620
For in this book, you will find all the answers you seek. Should you ask a question, an answer will be given, should you need a spell, an incantion will be provided, should you need to see the future, a vision will appear. Unlimited knowledge at your finger tips, all you need to do is ask. But beware, everything comes with a price. @Mno
