10 days in and super proud! But now my mind is trying to get all sneaky! I used to go have a few drinks at numerous places before I came home and got blackout. Found myself yesterday almost stopping at a bar and having a drink which would have been the start to my drinking again. I didn’t. But that mental rush almost got to me…suggestions?
You’ve got to fight through those. I can relate as the mental part of it I feel is the biggest battle.
Make sure you recognize your triggers. Don’t drive past bars you used to frequent. Don’t shop in stores that have alcohol. Keep reminding yourself why you quit drinking, you want to do this and how bad your life was while drinking.
It’s a big mental game against yourself and you’ve got to want to win!
Great stuff! Thanks Goose!
I agree with Goose. Make sure you keep your triggers in mind. If you can make sure to change people, places and things. It will be hard but every day that you stay clean is worth it. Use distraction tactics to keep your mind off of using. Join a gym, play some sports, go fishing. Whatever helps keep your mind occupied. If that still is not enough use something to remind you of your new way of life like a sober bracelet and continue to go to your meetings. Speak with your sponsor and people in your sober network. You can do it!
Well done on 10 days.
At the moment I am on 15 days. This week has been the hardest for me. The first week seemed easy but to be honest I think my body needed it as I really hit rock bottom and possibly I was still on the effects that week. This week I too have found myself in shops thinking about buying a bottle. My moods are very low. I’m just trying to be positive. I know at the end of the day I need to do this. Just think how great you will feel if you don’t have a drink. Like always day at a time. That’s the goal.
Good luck fella. M
