100 and what now?

Hi everyone, this is my first post here. Today marks 100 days since I stopped drinking alcohol and using marijuana. It’s not bad, but it’s not perfect either. I also met with my friend today — we’ve been fighting our addictions together. Unfortunately, he was completely high. I can feel that I’m not at a stage where I can carry both my own struggle and his at the same time. But I’m afraid of losing him as a friend.

Have any of you been through something similar? Were you able to fight your own battle while also supporting a friend in theirs?

Welcome Pavel and congrats on 100 days!

I had a friend similar to yours in my early sobriety. AA taught me that I can’t fight harder for someone else’s sobriety than they do themselves, and I can’t get anyone sober. All I can do is live by example and be there for them when they’re ready to surrender.
Unfortunately, my friend never surrendered and I found them dead on their bedroom floor from this disease. The fact is - the only person I can save is myself.

Live by example and be there when and if your friend is ready.

Congratulations on 100 days! I hope you are very proud of yourself. I am for sure!

Yes, I have experienced similar situations with close friends. In my experience and opinion, to overcome addiction, everyone must take the full responsibility for oneself. You know that because you already did for yourself!

You cant do that for your friend. But you can be there for him when he is ready. I think the best thing you can do for him is living a sober life and believe in him that he can do that too. Don‘t underestimate the huge impact you have on other peoples lives just by being there and doing the best you can for your own sobriety.

I also think its important to put yourself first. You owe it to yourself and I know for sure your friend (if he is a real friend who loves you) wants you to succeed in your sobriety journey.

Take care, keep it up. We are here for you :purple_heart:

Welcome to the community and congratulations on your triple digits :tada::tada:

The early months are hard enough to pave our own path and find healthy routines / practices that help out journey.

I am sorry your friend has relapsed and having a harder time with the journey. All we can do is provide the information (as meetings, sober groups, this or similar apps) and let them find their way. We have to want it to make it happen. We can’t do that for anyone else. Definitely not when our sobriety may be in jeopardy.

Glad you are here doing the work :flexed_biceps:t4::flexed_biceps:t4:
