What caused the change was that the booze stopped working - didn’t take away the pain anymore. I didn’t care about hitting “bottoms” (getting divorced, losing jobs, money, cars, missing kids, suicidal, etc.) as long as I felt the booze.
3 detoxes in 9 months, one 2 month rehab, then stays in 1/2 way and 3/4 sober houses while I got support from 12 step groups got me started into recovery. Recovery can be progressive, and eventually alcohol stopped being attractive in recall, urges diminished and eventually went away. Now the booze has no power and drinking it today would be on a par with drinking bleach. UGH.

Thank you for sharing! I’m only 4,5 years sober and I can relate to so much of what you said. I was extremely grateful when the obsession had finally lifted. The thought of a drink is nauseating.

And I was around when I had 2000 days @Lisa07 but I think I was at the daily check in tread and didn’t gave it much of attention. But then I saw this tread and such things I cannot pass by without shouting around I’m allowed to join too
