Twenty-one days is a huge achievement. It’s the beginning of something — and in this case, the beginning of something positive.
Keep going, because you can do this. Going from more than a bottle a day to zero — no alcohol at all — is incredibly difficult. It’s a huge and radical change, but also a very positive one.
I’d like to share something about your approach, with all due respect. You say: “No bad company, no bad habits, no more wine.” And that’s absolutely fine. There are times when saying “no” is necessary. But I also think it might help to shift the focus away from all those negatives. Recovery can’t just be about “no, no, no.” At some point, you also have to start saying yes.
Yes to a new life.
Yes to change.
Yes to being fully awake and present.
Yes to getting your clarity and sharpness back.
Yes to reconnecting with your friends.
Yes to meeting new people and building a new circle of friends.
Yes to reclaiming all the things alcohol had gradually taken away from your life.
“No” may be where it begins, but in the end, life is about saying yes.
Say yes to this new life. Say yes to who you truly are, because perhaps, through alcohol, what you were really doing was saying “no” to yourself.
I think you need many more yeses now, while keeping the necessary noes — because, of course, there will be times when saying no is essential.
Keep going. I really think you’re on the right path. Don’t lose heart. Take it one day at a time. Don’t think about the 21 days behind you or about making it another seven days.
Just today. Tomorrow will take care of itself when it comes.
For me, that has always been the key.
I say all of this simply from my own experience.
A big hug.
