5k a day in May

I’m only 23 days sober but running has been a big part of that sobriety lately. Fitness has always been important to me but running has taken away the urge to drink lately. I just run to exhaustion. I’ve already completed 1 marathon the past 23 days and have another one coming up in 10 days. I’m adding on this challenge to keep me on track with my sobriety. Anyone else participating in the 5k a day in May challenge?

I wish I had the energy and knees  the only thing I would warn you about is getting to tired or hungry can bring on more cravings plus your body is going through a lot from the drinking that’ll take time to sort out

I like the idea but I wont be able to run every day. Wish you good luck though!
My longest run was half marathon and I think you guys who runs full 42 (or more) are really badasses!
Good decision with giving up alco btw!

I was really thinking to join you on this challenge but i would already fail on day 1 so yeah…
Keep us posted

I’m definitely keeping all that in mind and being cautious. One of the biggest drinking triggers for me in the past has been lack of ability to sleep without it. I became so dependent on alcohol to calm my mind that I literally couldn’t sleep for days when I tried to get sober in the past. Running seems to exhaust my mind to where I’ve been able to rest this go around with sobriety.

You should join me in the challenge! The best thing about running to me has been it’s all a competition against yourself. It’s about making small improvements and beating personal goals. If anything it can be a starting point for you. I definitely encourage it

Will do! Hope you have a speedy recovery from your injury and get back out there.

Congratulations!! 25 days sober here! Try not to use the word “only” when talking about your time in sobriety. Talk about it with pride!! You’ve fought & overcome a deadly disease for 23 days! Something you be proud of!

Thank you so much  and that’s actually really good advice. I’ve done something similar but with the word “have” when referring to doing something. Like for example instead of saying “I have to go to work” I now say “I get to go to work”. Such a simple change makes all the difference. Words have so much power!

Good luck on your 5K a day! I tried the mile a day trend a while back but I only made it 10 days before I got shin splints. I run 3-4 times a week, with 1 of those being a long run. I do run a 5k every sunday. We have a runners thread if you want to join us over there

Welcome to the forum Sarah :waving_hand:

Thats awesome that you went out there and did it! I’m proud of you but at the same time a bit jealous of the time you did it in. My time for the first day was 31:24 and I’d like to think that subconsciously I was holding myself back to have a more impressive time at the end of the month but I don’t know haha :joy::joy:

I’m running regularly almost 2 years already (since I’m sober) so yeah, my 5k time is not bad right now  No need to be jealous! You are running marathons ffs!
I started with day 2 but I will try to be here every day! Usually I run 2-3 times per week so it will be a challenge

You definitely have more experience than me so now I don’t feel as bad about my time haha. It definitely lit a fire under me when I looked up the average time for my age and I fell under the beginners category :joy: definitely gotta get out of there lol.

But yeah that’s about how often I normally run but I do anywhere from 5-8 miles normally on trails. It’s more relaxing to me that way than on a track or around a park.

There’s no pressure to do it everyday but I’m definitely going to encourage and motivate you to try

You’re welcome! Words are very powerful. I learned that the hard way through my addiction. One of the most difficult amends I have to make in my recovery is because of my words hurting a loved one.
Congrats again on your sobriety. You’ll do good things

Thank you! I can tell that your words of encouragement come from a genuine place and that means a lot to me. Something as simple as being told I’ll do greats things means so much when I’m trying so hard.

At least you recognize where you need to start with your amends and I’m sure when the time is right you’ll be able to start that process and repair that relationship with your loved one. Hopefully they will understand and as long as it comes from the heart you’ll at least begin that healing process for yourself. I know as much damage as I have caused to others it was because of how I felt on the inside. Like they say hurting people hurt people.

Just know I’m here if you ever need anything. Even if it’s just to vent. Judgment free. Im a pretty good listener
