A very bad few days. Im on day 3

I am having bad dreams about my daughter. Not to really get into it we trigger each other to drink which is not a good scenario. She’s had 4 OWI in 3 to 4 months. I know its all out of my control but you always want the best for your kids. Alcohol runs strong in our family. She was living with her biological dad that just got out of prison a couple of months ago. With this last incident we told her she has to go to back with him.. Me and her dad that’s been there for her since shewas 7 thinks its the best for her. I just don’t want her to think iwe are abandoning her. But I also have to take care of myself and work on myself so I can stay sober. I just have some guilt right now. I thought I was over the guilt but im not obviously . Just need some words of encouragement.

That’s really heavy, I’m sorry you have to deal with this. Do you have any outside support to help you deal with all of this?

Being a good parent is SO hard sometimes @stacey.lanam I applaud you for making the right decision even though it must have hurt. By protecting your sobriety now you will ultimately be a better parent in the long run. Stay strong. :flexed_biceps:

We have been going through some tough times with our teenage son and substance use the last few years. It is hard to accept what we can and cannot control. But, you are right to put your sobriety first. You can’t be :100: for the people around you if you don’t protect your own sobriety. Since accepting that, I don’t feel so much guilt anymore or blame myself for his problems and choices. Frustration? Disappointment? Fatigue? Yeah those are still around. But those emotions are much easier to engage than guilt and in my case resentment or anger. My sponsor always tells me our kids are more God’s than they are ours. God as in whatever your own concept of spirituality is or higher power as some call it in AA. When I look at it like this, I realize all I can do really is keep the light on and the channel of communication open for when he’s ready to finally ask for help

I am just very tired of being sick and tired . I hate that addiction is in our i family. Is affected my future I used to be a nurse. Lost that . Now its passed on to my daughter amd part of me have my guilt because of my addiction. I know that its her decision but it doesn’t make it easier to see her losing everything she has worked for and she’s only 22 and facing possible prison. So I just feel awful. It makes me sick to my stomach . I know I have to focus on my alcoholism. If I’m not good myself im not good for anyone else I know that but being a mother still makes my heart break. Just need to get that my chest. Thanks for listening.

I hear you. When we see our children making the same mistakes or suffering in the same way we do/did, it is somehow worse than when it is happening to us. But the only recovery you have any control over is your own.

And just as a mod, rather than making a new post for day counts / diary type posts, we ask that members add to an existing thread to keep the forum tidy, which is why I moved the Day 4 post to under the Day 3 one.

So what do I post i don’t know what you mean. I was thinking this a.place to let people support you I didn’t know there was a.certain thing we talk about everyday. So if that’s true this isn’t for me. It’s more like AA

All they mean is that rather than create a new thread every day you can just continue to use this thread. It keeps the forum easier to navigate, and it also lets you have all your thoughts in on thread rather than in many threads. We also have a daily check in thread that is quite popular for more general check ins.

You can post about whatever you like (within the forum rules, like no being insulting to other members, being racist/sexist, etc), and there is no set topic for a certain day, but if it is an update (such as how you are on the following day), please add that post to this thread. If you want to talk about something totally different, of course start a new thread.

So I just go to my story or post on someone else’s post.

Just keep posting here for your own personal thoughts and everyone will carry on chatting with you here. :green_heart:

Then post in the “check in” thread when you want to celebrate your day count - that can be everyday! :birthday_cake: :star_struck:

If absolutely is. I couldn’t have made it to 100 days without the support of people here. I never talk to strangers on the internet, but somehow this feels like such a safe place. Please stay and take what you need :blossom:

Starting to learn how to forgive myself and accepting what is out of my control. Also accepting what people do is on them. Everyone has a choice. Also remember people make mistakes but that doesn’t define who they are. Every day is a new day to start over or becoming a better version of yourself
