AA due or fees?

So, I’ve been going to AA meetings for about 8 years now. It’s always been my understanding that there are no due or fees required for membership? The only requirement is the desire to stop drinking? I’ve been going to meetings here at same club house for a couple of years now and I’ve noticed that they have dues and fees? They’re not required to attend meetings but they are required to be considered a member. Just recently they held an event and there was going to be some kind of vote. On the invitation flyer it stated “be sure that your dues are up to date to be able to vote”. I’ve also noticed throughout the clubhouse the amount paid for membership is posted. I think it’s $10 month. I’m just wondering if anyone else has seen this where they attend? Are they breaking any AA rules? Because I was always under the impression that the only requirement for membership I the desire to stop drinking?

AA clubhouses are usually separate nonprofit entities that, while supporting AA, are not technically AA. Many have board of directors, or other officers. Individual AA groups that utilize the space typically pay rent to the clubhouse that owns the space. I’m board president and committee chair for a nonprofit who hosts a round up (AA and Al-Anon) and we charge ticket fees to attend the event (although we do not make money)

Yeah. They should be member supported. My SA group, which is formatted directly from AA is all voluntary member donations. No dues.
