So I have tried various ways to stay sober and due to failure through my own denial I am now on Fluoxetine for depression. And that of course did not stop the drinking. I have been on and off the drink for years and my partner is in recovery also, so we with kids are just being unstable and unsafe for each other. I have been on Acamprosate 666mg 3times a day, started on the 31st Dec 2019. It has not gone well and I have suffered quite a lot of nausea and a kind of cramping whenever taking them. So final straw was a different strategy. I took my evening dose and lay in bed. Took my morning dose this morning and lay down for an hour. Finally I think it has took. I am going on Antibuse on Wednesday. And my partner is to follow. It’s really sobriety or loss now.

I was on on Antabuse long before I got sober- I just used it to control my drinking as I wasn’t spiritually well.
The only thing that worked for me was attending AA meetings, getting a sponsor and working the steps. This removed the mental obsession and compulsion to drink.
Have you been to an AA meeting?

The problem for most alcoholics is the addict mind will eventually find a way to drink again while on whatever med you’re taking. It might help you initially, but what’s to stop you from not taking those meds one day bc you want a drink?
