Hi Matthew,

I think it’s great that you’ve chosen to take extreme measures to make your home a safe place. Radical Amputation.

For me, my home is my castle. If there is any place that I need to feel safe from my addiction to porn, it’s in my own house.

@Optimistic has had a really good experience with CE. He may even offer to be one of your accountability partners.

In any case, count me in!

I’ll shoot you a PM with my email address.
And I’m hoping that you live in the US.

Because I’m also going to give you my phone number so that you can be one of my phone buddies.

Hello Mattew. It’s good to have you here. My name is Moses and I can strongly relate to your struggle. As @KevinesKay said, I also use covenant eyes which means I do have people (@KevinesKay, @Bomdhil and my wifey) that I’m also accountable to: the thought of not disappointing myself and these great guys couple with personal improvement I’m seeing keeps me going; I’m on day 80 today. So, if you still need an ally and you don’t mind that I’m still a work in progress like you, PM me for my details. Regards.

I’m going to recommend not posting your personal email address on the public forum. Sharing that kind of information would be best via private message.

But thanks for sharing. I’ll tag it with your phone number on my contacts. And we’ll talk soon. Good job on reaching out.

Agreed. I’d just delete that post and send it in a DM.

Lots of good forums and content if you search for it. Also, don’t be afraid to ask questions and get new insights from peers on here. We’re all rooting for you! Looking forward to getting to know you more, also

My bad. Normally I wouldnt do that.
For questions:
1.What methods do any of you use to stay clear from searching out pornography to acting out?
2.What do you use as a routine to help focus on your goals and day to day activities ?
3.Any recommendations to help assist in recovery?

Hey guys. I’m just wondering about the recovery thing… Cause I think cutting off so called temptations is like emptying the bottles for an alcoholic, but its not in the core of reasons. Sorry my bad non native English. I’m studying to be a nurse in mental health and addictions. This is why I’m interested. Porn is all around and this addiction is spreading like a plague. And I’ve lived with porn addicts. My hunch is that there are issues with massively low self esteem and insecurity with roots in childhood. I hope to be able to help addicts of all kind in future :+1:

Good questions Matthew.

  1. I can find porn everywhere. But in order for me to keep my mind in the best clarity, I make sure that it’s not accessible in my house or my phone. So, for me, I’ve locked down my computer and TV at home. If I go online or need to access a site that’s not on my whitelist, a family member needs to put in a password. And I’ve locked all access to the web, my settings, and other apps such as Facebook and YouTube on my phone.

I understand that you’re working on something similar. How’s that going for you? I’m still waiting for your CE invite.

  1. In my accountability thread, I’m posting a daily To-Do list to track my healthy behaviors each day. It’s a really good measurement of my recovery.

  2. Because we’re all at different stages and levels, what works for one may not work for another. So I’m keeping it simple on this one.

A. Never give up. If you stumble, get back up. Relapse is bad, but if it happens, use the opportunity to learn what could be done differently to improve your success. If nothing changes, nothing changes.

B. Reach out for help. Don’t do this alone. And if you’re craving, never crave alone.

Hi Hanna.

You’re absolutely right.

Dealing with this addiction is more than avoiding behaviors and setting boundaries. Sex and porn addicts have to deal with several non-truths. These are just a few.

  1. I am a horrible worthless person.
  2. Sex is equal to love.
  3. Sex is my most important need.
  4. No one is available to meet my needs.

Oftentimes, these fallacies stem from an upbringing that’s characterized by abuse or (in my case) abandonment.

Although, sex and porn addiction have some differences with other addictions, there a lot more similarities. Oftentimes, when an alcoholic shares, I see so much of myself in that person. Focusing on the similarities as opposed to the differences helps me a lot.

That’s great that you’re studying to be a mental health nurse. I think you’ll be awesome at it. Thanks for chiming in.

Thanks @KevinesKay :+1:
The greatest similarity between different types of addictions must be that the behaviour is harmful and causes anxiety, pain, guilt, worthlessness. And may be lethal untreated.

My thoughts…
porn/sex addiction has a lot to do with raising up, belief systems, cultural context and twisted interpretations of sexuality.
Then again many people use substances like alcohol or drugs to relieve their insecurity in creating connection with other people. Am I good enough for this person, will I be accepted, will I be rejected etc.
So porn, one night stands and paid sex are sometimes a mean to avoid real connection and possible painful rejection.
Or then you already might have a loving person in your life but that relation doesn’t ease the pain there exists. And that is the core I’m interested in. I’m not going to be a qualified as a psychotherapist, but I feel I need to understand the stories behind addiction.

This specific range of addiction is also very delicate issue to many, so I’m even more interested to learn about it. Your share and thoughts are valuable, and thx for your kind words

Also thank you for your output. It seems you have a handle on yout temptations and access online. For me from my experince that is the biggest difficulty for amyone who struggles with pornography. For myself youtube sadly was a stumble on my sobriety, especially the internet.
