Acetaminophen

So okay this is my addiction. Acetaminophen. Its in Tylenol 3 but also in otc medications Acetaminophen is addictive and the otc medication we had in out medicine cabinet happened to have a large amount of it in it. And when taken over the limit for me it made me feel happy and calm but then I took it and it made me feel absolutely nothing. The withdrawals are terrible and make you feel like death is near.

I wrote this post to bring awarness to this addiction because its unknown but very common.

Never heard of an addiction to Acetaminophen before, but I do know that abusing it will lead to liver damage.

If you took Tylenol 3, you got high off the codeine, not the acetaminophen. The acetaminophen at high dosages can quickly cause liver damage, but it doesn’t induce euphoria on its own. You can build up a tolerance to it tho. And like any drug, it can be abused.

Hopefully you are thru your withdrawals and feeling better.

I’m at the gym right now but I promise I’ll comment about this later tonight. But to cut it short right now, I abused so much Tylenol and ibuprofen with my pain killers that I developed a heavy withdrawal from the two way long after I detoxed the Oxy, Norco, Percaset and heroin away…

Interesting, learn something new every day. Hopefully you can put it behind you before your liver fails you. Is it similar to lopremade or something?

I’ve chatted to him a bit via message mate but do share your experience and knowledge with him cos I don’t know everything about it, he’s a courageous lad reaching out whilst being relatively young. I don’t think that I’d have had that courage at 14:slightly_smiling_face::+1:

Acetaminophen is flat out DANGEROUS when taken in large quantities. 4g (8 500mg pills) is the maximum daily dose you can safely take. When the acetaminophen in vicodin was 500mg or as high as 750mg per 2.5, 5, 7.5 or 10mg of hydrocodone, people were killing their livers while chasing the high from them. Because of the dangers of overdosing abusing the vicodin, they dropped the strength to 350mg per pill. Someone I went through recovery with recently died from cirrhosis of the liver because of the massive amounts of acetaminophen taken while addicted to opiates. I apologize for the rant but PLEASE watch your acetaminophen o take.

Alright sorry it took me so long but I had to get back first and check in.

So for me, I started on Norco 10-325, taking at its height up to 25-30 a day. That’s almost 6k in Tylenol. I switched to Oxy for a long stretch after that taking 4 doses of 90mg each but even still when it was pure Oxy I had started to build up this weird thing were I still took 1000mg of Tylenol every time I took my Oxy. It started to get so bad that I was now mixing in 800mg 3 times a day of Advil inbetween my Oxy/Tylenol combo. Doing this for over 4 years. I have crohns and thankfully I didn’t do major damage to my liver, somehow! But what I did do was create 4-5 ulcers in my lower intestine from the abuse of Advil, since it is so hard on the intestine and processed in the lower portion. Even when I was smoking heroin I was taking 4000mg of Tylenol and 2400mg of Advil a day… When I went to prison, my detox from Norco, Oxy and Heroin lasted about 2 miserable weeks, but the strangest thing was my mental habit and physical withdraw from Over the Counter Meds. It took me about 6 weeks of serious pain in my joints and lower back. I do believe it was a lot mental and regardless of it only being over the counter it is still a pain medicine, while it only dulls a very little amount of pain, I have been taking it for sooo long I had no pain threshold whatsoever. That’s where I believe the physical dependency came in.
To present day, I still have the ulcers which are doing better but still suck at times… But I do not take any type of pain medicine now… EVER. I’d rather feel whatever comes than go down that road plus I just don’t want to take any type of pill pain medication, it isn’t a trigger to use but it does trigger old memories and I don’t need that. Tbh after escaping pain for so long in my life, almost 7 years, call me crazy but I want to feel everything now. I want to know how strong I am and how much I can endure bc it motivates me. It lets me know I’m alive, that I may or may not have done something wrong while working out and it keeps me sharp to were I don’t numb out and do more damage later on. I love pain now, sure I’d rather have none lol but I embrace it and love it. I hope this helps a little bc while people may think it’s not a thing, imo it very much is. It’s still a damn pain medicine and our bodies develop conditions and habits to anything and everything. With repeated enough use you will have a feeling or sense when not taking it. I hope your doing better and fucking proud of you man for being of such young age and recognizing a bad thing when it’s coming. That’s fucking huge man and I wish and hope the best in your time of need. If you ever have any questions or just want to talk, I’m here!

Nice one m8.i think he said they were going away for a couple of days and might struggle with internet access but no doubt he’ll appreciate that when he gets on.:+1: He’s got some guts hasn’t he, I can only imagine how different life could have been if places like this existed years ago, I may well have carried on regardless but nice, welcoming people sharing they’re experience would definitely have made an impression:+1::slightly_smiling_face:

My personal opinion is that it is dangerous in any amount, which is why I don’t take any OTC painkillers. No acetaminophen, ibuprofen, aspirin…nothing. I take turmeric extract, krill oil, glucosamine, and just added saffron to my daily regimen. Guess what? No pain, even though I am an active martial arts student constantly subjected to physical trauma, and who jumps rope, runs, does strength training in addition to hitting things and people.

On the rare occasion that I have an injury or pain, I use ice. Ice is my friend. When I get a cold I use a Neti pot, honey with lemon, cloves, steam, and other remedies that don’t include OTC cold meds.

I’m done putting poison in my body.

From taking acetaminophen when I had headaches while drinking was a contributing factor to my liver cirrhosis according to my doctor. It’s an all around shit drug.

Motrin were called “Jarhead M&Ms” when I was in the Corps. “Doc, I jacked my shoulder running the O-course, this morning” “Here’s 15 motrin”. “Doc, my back and feet are thrashed from that road march.” “Here’s 25 motrin”. “Doc, I went over that wall and heard a snap. Now my shinbone is poking out of my leg.” “Here’s 50 motrin”.

Yeah…I took a lot of motrin in my 20’s and 30’s.
