That is seriously fantastic. I bought my TV about ten years ago, and I still love it, but my eyesight is not as good as it used to be and playing a 2 player game of Terraria via the Playstation is starting to cause some eyestrain. I’ve thought a bit about something larger, but a projector would be badass. Are you able to play video games with the projector?
@Soberbilly Well, to be fair, I grew up horribly poor and I didn’t know much about good audio equipment (nor could I afford it even if I had) in my early adulthood. But even then you are just a bit older than me How long did you work in broadcasting?
New clean install. Took a lot of work to remove an old TV that came with the house which was installed into a box on the wall and was on a powered arm that could drop it down or hide it up out of sight. I’m sure it was trick back in the day but was a butt ugly annoyance so we always intended to remove it all and start fresh.
77" LG C2 OLED EVO
LG S95QR 9.1.5 Dolby Atmos (not exactly in picture… There’s a story to that)
Originally got the lg SP11R soundbar (in picture) but had an issue with a rear speaker. They were unable to source a replacement as had now been superseded, so they gave me the newest top of the line LG unit as a direct replacement. It’s much nicer sounding, though not without some very minor gripes. Works beautifully with the TV and the wireless rear and sub make everything so neat and clean. It’s all installed now but I couldn’t be arsed taking a new pic, and it’s not that much different.
It’s amazing at night having the matte black wall behind the screen as it makes the image appear to float in air and the true blacks of the OLED blend straight into it with seemingly no border.
Nice! Rocket League is pretty fun. I’ve never played Kerbal Space Program. It looks like you have the perfect place for your set up. I see your lord and Master is on the cushioned throne I might have to consider a projector. It seems like a great idea.
@Soberbilly You know, my favorite saying about age is “though age may be fleeting, immaturity can last forever” But yeah, you may be a bit older than some on here, but that just means you should have more entertaining stories to tell. But anyway, that’s all really interesting! '08 was a rough year. I graduated from my first college adventure in '08…with a degree in finance. I was in my late 20s at the time and ended up in the restaurant industry. Luckily I’ve always had a good sense of humor about the whole thing. But I feel like doing something with audio would have been way more interesting. Did you do any other audio jobs after you left NBC? What does being a master control operator involve?
I feel like that’s still kind of on topic, but you’re always welcome to message me privately, if you think it’s getting off topic but still want to reply.
Congrats about your six months! That’s really fantastic! I was also a high functioning addict and opiates was one of my main demons. Withdrawing from that crap is a special kind of hell, but being free of it is worth it. I’m really happy for you.
I wish!
I helped where I could but a local qualified tradie did it. We are rural so it’s harder to get people but through our slowly developing network we are getting some great people to help us out.
He was awesome, and is now a mate.
We are very happy with the result, despite the annoyance with the original soundbar.
When it comes to guitars there’s good entry level guitars out there at reasonable prices
Acoustic Yamaha, Mitchell and Washburn make good guitars in the 200 dollar range.
As far as electric, a lot of good starter packs by fender and Gibson that includes an amp, strap and cables. For around the same 200ish. They go under their budget series epiphone or squier, play pretty good. I mean it’s not a 10k PRS you’ll see John Mayer play. But if your just a hobbyist or beginner it will suit you fine
A brand I heard about thafs been making a lot of noise is Ivy and Harley Benton, both imported I been thinking about getting an Ivy semi hollow cause I heard amazing things about it.
The blue one is probably my main guitar. It’s a favorite to me, but everyone loves the purple one. I bought it as a backup and it got used a handful of times just to put some miles on it. The color scheme was chosen for a purple rain instrumental video I planned and still haven’t did.
@AyBee Goes to show you never know where you’ll meet your next friend! Seriously sweet setup.
@Soberbilly Very interesting! Thank you for sharing. Also I’m glad to hear you have a good relationship with both of your kids. I’m not at all surprised they like the new you. Great to get to know you more as well. You’re welcome to message any time. My availability to be on TS is a little spotty right now, so if I don’t reply quickly, know that I will eventually reply.
@Fury Thanks for the input. I’ll look into some of those. I don’t need top of the line, but I also want to make sure I find something that isn’t so cheap that I hate playing it. I can see why people would love the purple one. They’re both gorgeous. Do you prefer the blue one because of a difference in how they play or how they feel to play? Or is it just because of that beautiful blue color?
