All things live music gigs/concerts and festivals

I’ve noticed an absence of a topic regarding live music gigs and festivals so I thought I’d create one.

Feel free to post any of your live music experiences in here. You can post about upcoming events you’re excited about or retrospectively post photos from your recent or favourite gigs, or review a band/artist and anything in between.

Live music has been a huge part of my life and I’ve averaged 60 days per year attending events for a while, whether that was an occasional gig in my local dive or a huge festival like Download or Reading/Leeds. Just last year I saw Doves, Heartworms x 2, Snapped Ankles, Rhianne Downey, Kneecap, CMAT, English Teacher, Offspring, Luvcat, Fat Dog and went to Damnation Festival in Manchester. That was just in November and December.

If not many people share their experiences I might just use this thread as my own personal scrapbook. :face_with_tongue:

 Live Music

Awesome idea! Definitely going to bookmark this thread!

My first concert of the year is going to be performed by HEALTH and Carpenter Brut! I’m extremely excited to kick off this year with such an amazing duo, plus I’m going with family!

Looking forward to checking in on this thread and posting pictures from events I attend! Thanks for the opportunity :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::call_me_hand:

Ooh, interesting. HEALTH will be blessing my manor in November of this year at Damnation festival and I’ll be there. So I have the opportunity to see them but I don’t know much about them, which means a bit of research is in order. Any pointers on where to start, albums, singles etc?

Looks like a sick line up!

My first introduction to HEALTH was the song “FEEL NOTHING” on their Vol.4 :: SLAVES OF FEAR album! It’s a pretty good feel for who they were and still are!

I will say that I am in serious love with their most recent CONFLICT DLC album, particularly the song “DON’T KILL YOURSELF”! The dark synth genre is very easy for me to listen to, and they incorporate some lighter vocals on top of heavy ass rhythms!

Thanks, I’ll give those ones a listen.

My husband and I are old rockers (not quite IN rockers yet) and sadly most of our favorite bands are no longer together. Heck, many aren’t alive! We were SO lucky to see Jeff Lynn and ELO on their final tour in October 24. I saw them in 1977!! So…as our favs have hung up their guitars, we have been going to tribute band shows. Saw Brit Floyd (Pink Floyd) last summer. Tickets purchased for early May. Good stuff!

I went to Manchester tonight for a gig that was meant to take place in November 25 but got delayed by the British government and the local council. The band in question - Bob Vylan. Some of you might have heard of them because of their chant at the Glastonbury festival last year. It was my 3rd time of seeing them and first time at their own show, the other 2 times were at festivals where they only get around 40 minutes to play but tonight they played for 90 minutes.

They had support from a band called Cowboy Hunters who describe themselves as fart rock, not to be confused with art rock. :joy: They were good fun but I won’t be going out of my way to listen to them again or buying tickets specifically for their own show. Here are a couple of pics of them.

As for the main act - Bob Vylan. What. A. Gig!

The lead singer Bobby crowd surfed for the first song and I helped to hold him aloft and pass him along. The moshpits were pushy as hell and our original vantage point changed - much to our advantage because we got way closer to the stage. The slight problem with that was getting the brunt of all the other crowd surfers. I got kicked in the head, someone landed directly on top of me and my neck vertebrae gave an almighty crack :grimacing: thankfully it’s OK, and my right arm ended up twisted by passing another crowd surfer to security at the front rail. I hope they all had fun, because I feel like I’ve done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson :joy:

Bob Vylan’s music is very politically charged and they give off sooo much energy. For certain songs I was getting vibes of RAtM :sign_of_the_horns: They electrified the 2,600 capacity venue!

And what’s more. I stayed sober in a venue that sold alcohol. :sign_of_the_horns::blush:

Last festival I went to was Sick New World in 2024, was fun, seen many of these bands in my younger days.

I made a video of the experience.

Been loving live music forever, not going as often as you @RaggedTrouseredPhil , but still as often as I can. Got tickets for the coming 2 months to see Wednesday, Maro and Just Mustard. Those are all gigs in Paradiso, my favourite venue just 5 minutes bike ride from my place. Wil visit more through having my indie pass, which gives free entrance to lots of new bands and artists for the year. Go and be surprised. Thinking about some shows out of town, Jason Isbell and The Streets to name two.

As to festivals, the big ones are over for me. Used to go to Werchter, biggest festival in Belgium every year. It’s too much for me these days. Like to visit smaller ones once or twice a year when I can. Haldern in Germany a very nice one, they always find new upcoming bands that go big after. Idles and Editors I first saw live there for example.

And experiencing live music sober is so much better! I used to be totally wasted, not remembering anything from what I saw and heard. Total different epxerience now. Far superior.

Ace line up. I’ve seen many of these too.

Cool video, lots of horns :sign_of_the_horns::smiling_face_with_sunglasses: I saw The Strat, I jumped from that in 2016. Another little fact, I slept through an entire Babymetal set in 2019 - you guessed it, drunk!

Tribute bands can be fun and cool. I’m seeing one myself next weekend. They’re called Type of Negative. Obviously we can’t ever see Type O Negative because Peter is no longer with us but the tribute does them justice. :sign_of_the_horns:

I saw The Streets at a big festival (Boardmasters) last year for my first time and they were great. Unfortunately their set was cut a little short due to adverse weather conditions. I’ve heard of your favourite venue because some of my favourite bands have played there. It’s great to catch the up-and-coming bands in the smaller venues and festivals before they blow up huge.

I waited too long to watch IDLES but when I saw them they were worth the wait.
