Reading this now. Wanted to know has it helped anyone else on here?
Thanks
I’ve seen several have positive things to say about it. Any educational research is always great. Give it a read
Absolutely, a great book, and it has been of immeasurable help to me.
Thanks good to know. Did it help you quit altogether or cut down do you think?
I’ve been reading it most of today
I had been planning / hoping / dreaming about quitting completely anyway, but I found that book was indeed very helpful, and since reading it, all in one afternoon about 118.8 days ago, I haven’t had any alcohol at all, cold turkey, so to speak !
Awesome I can’t wait to finish it
Also congrats on your 118.8 days

Yup, I did read the book too. Has helped me a lot ![]()
I have listened to the audio book several times. I found it very helpful. I have also listened to some audio books from Craig Beck. I was able to relate with a lot of it, and it provided good insight.
I will have a look into Craig beck thanks ![]()
I’ll have to look into that, too. I’ve only ever read the book by Alan Carr.
I am reading it now, almost halfway through. I hope it will really help me. Have you finished it yet? @yen5678
I’m on page 160 reading it tonight. What do you think so far?
I think he makes some really great points and it’s definitely been keeping me distracted and not wanting to drink at least. I hope what he says about not needing willpower is true because that’s why I have failed in the past. I’m new in my recovery but i can’t think of alcohol as anything other than a poison right now, and I don’t have a craving for any so i hope that is a good sign. What do you think of it?
That part of the book where it says alcohol = poison has really stuck with me too.
Kind of like… why not drink a pint of petrol instead ???
As I’ve quoted ad nauseum on this site, I like the idea that doing without alcohol isn’t DEPRIVING yourself of anything, but rather FREEING yourself from years of propaganda and rubbish from alcohol companies and even often well-meaning friends and family.
And saving money, too ! Based on the calculation function in the app, in these last 125 days without alcohol, I’ve saved almost 1900 CHF !
I can think of better things to do with that money…
@anon27700620 Exactly! We have been brainwashed since we were children to believe it was something good, something to turn to when we were celebrating, or stressed, or upset… but it’s nothing more than a socially accepted drug. I can’t wait to be truly free from it. And actually feel my emotions instead of numbing them. Congrats to you on the 125 days, that is very inspiring and gives me hope.
I havent read any of the books mentioned but I’ve found thinking that way of freeing yourself instead of depriving Is a real game changer. It has released me of those thoughts throughout the day that lead up to me going to the shop. And then all the hard work of trying to hide the fact that I’ve downed a bottle of wine in less than 2 hours. Or having to remember where i hid all the empties the night before so no one could see.how much i had consumed. I’m so glad I’m not having to do that anymore. It was exhausting looking back.
I used to buy those wine-in-boxes… easier to hide !
But that was only until 125 days ago…!
Still, I did like Alan Carr’s book, and found it to be very helpful.
But whatever works for each person is the way to go.
