Almost made it to 24 hours sober

I am two hours away from hitting 24 hours without a drink. I have a bunch of groceries and things to help get me through the toughest part of withdrawal but I’m super proud of myself. I haven’t had a full dry day in… I’m not even sure how long.

I’ve been drinking more water and have been able to keep down food for the first time in a couple months. I know I’m not even CLOSE to out of the woods but I’m battling cravings successfully so far and am feeling confident and less afraid.

You got this stick with your plan and try to take it a day at a time and if that’s too tough then just minute by minute or second by second!! Reach out if you need support :pray:t3:

Welcome Chuck! Day 1 was super scary for me, even though the next couple were harder to get through. I am at day 15 now. Not shaking anymore. Stay close to us these coming days/weeks/months.

Also, i recommend pouring out any alcohol waiting for you in the house.

I definitely will! Heading into day 2 and feeling okay. A few cravings getting a bit stronger as night comes in but I have coping mechanisms!

Build on those coping mechanisms. They have seen me through some sticky spots. Let’s. Heck back in later today :+1:

Well done @Chuck.finn!! Keep doing it one day/hour/minute at a time. :tada: Do you have a plan in place for when cravings get stronger?

Not a deeply meaningful plan yet. I have a recovery group I’m in that I can lean on, as well as coming here! I also have plenty to keep me busy and a lot of friends and family I can call if I need a distraction. I also have written my reasons for quitting to look back on (and snacks and drink replacements galore).

Sounds good. It helps to check in here or with your recovery group when things get rough and cravings hit. The lights are always on. Looking forward to seeing you around. You got this!

I’m halfway to the 3 day mark! A day and 18 hours. Woke up this morning feeling energized which I’m worried means I’m in the calm before the storm, but making through yesterday gives me hope. Things are, so far, going well.

Welcome to the community - great work on your sober time. Just keep focusing on the day at hand and you will be able to easily maneuver the storm if it should come. This is a great community to be a part of for support and advise. I also come here when i need to fill my time with distractions so that the urges don’t take over.
Take your time to read around and join in when you feel comfortable. Glad to have you here with us :hugs:
