@Tito23 hope your Friday is going well! Take care.
Bit of a disappointing Friday, but whatcha gonna do.
Iām working on a cover of this right now, but mother of god - the verse consists of 3 chords and 2 of them are absolute bastards. So tough to get my fingers in place quickly. Doesnāt sound right using power chords as a substitute. The pre-chorus and chorus being ridiculously fun kinda makes up for the tough parts. But Iāll keep at it. Itās right in the sweet spot of my vocal range.
Always absolutely loved the bass line in this one too.
Outstanding live version.
Hope everyone has a great day, although Friday is nearly over for our trans-Atlantic friends here.
Hang in there and keep at it. Itās always cool to hear people talking about music projects or working on stuff. I realize lately that there is no such thing as writers block ā¦ And the progress with music with any instrument itās just really simply doing it a lot. Sometimes lately I will be working on stuff and be like damn six hours passed . But itās a healthy escape. Iām sure you can relate to your productivity being better. Anyway good luck on the cover hope everything comes together. Have a good day
Thanks.
I havenāt written any of my own stuff in 10+ years. I just donāt ever really like what I come up with, at least with guitar and singing.
But I have a repetoir of 30+ covers at this point, I like to run through them once a week or so - and youāre right, time flies. I put the odd one up on youtube occassionally.
I enjoy writing more with electronic/synth music, but I donāt have the equipment/programs or the will to spend on it. But itās a much more natural process for me than writing on guitar. Someday Iāll make the jump. I used to go DAYS in the studio making synthpop in college (full studio at my disposal), only leaving for bathroom, food, orā¦well, to get high
Hey Pedro, thanks. Nothing I canāt handle, just a couple of minor let-downs. These things happen. I have baseball to watch, a dog who sort of likes me, and tomorrow is a clean slate.
I think all of that is pretty awesome and I respect that so much. Thatās seriously impressive to be able to know that many covers. itās cool hearing what other people do musically. For me thatās what itās supposed to be about. Everybody can have their Visions and express themselves however they want. I definitely relate to a lot of what youāre talking about and music to me is probably the most important thing in my life right now besides the sobriety.
I would like to get better at covers but my attention span always goes back to creating. I mostly utilize a loop pedal to create everything and work on songs. I have a pretty simple set up. Mexican telecaster, couple small amps, boss Loop Pedal , And some keyboards which I usually use for instrumentals or Just backing drums. I have so much to learn and would like to get more on the technical side and understanding theory. Thatās whatās cool thereās always room to grow
Now I gotta hear this to figure out what these chords are, based on your style Iām betting itās some weird jazz chord stuff which ties the fingers in knots.
@Bluekoolaid as far as learning covers, itās a great thing to pick up on, I learned more from learning other peoples songs as far as techniques what I like and how to create my own style, when it comes to leads a lot of times if Iām playing live, I stick with the main concept but add my own flavor to it, I mean the artists themselves rarely play leads like they do on the record. Unless itās a specific section thatās identifiable, the passing notes get changed around
No, just traditional Eb and Db chords. Even after 20 yrs I struggle with them (largely due to avoiding them). The transitions in the verse are just awkward with them, too. Eb, Bbm, Db.
Iād usually just change the key but the actual key suits my singing to wellā¦and then it renders the chorus as a pain the ass if I do.
Recently I took all of my songs and wrote them on paper In tablature form. It was actually a really good exercise because it helped me to remember how to read it and understand. Thatās the only way I can look up music besides trying to figure it out by ear.
When I was younger I always thought a cover had to be exactly like you hear it on the record but it wasnāt till the last couple years I realize that itās really cool to make your own versions of it. I might try to find a good cover to post on here maybe now
Blue Jays!
Weāre looking tough this year, and all the guys are so likable. Great energy. Iāve got really high hopes.
Iām guessing bar chords? Iād say tune a half step flat and play it with open chords see how it feels sounds? Or get crazy and do a open E flat tuning one barre finger gets it all
Yellow April #3
Kraftwerk - Computer World, 1981.
Weāre really emphasizing the yellow with this oneā¦
Kraftwerkās 3rd appearance in this little game (and if I think about it, likely their last).
Like my other Kraftwerk records, itās part of the special edition remasters put out directly by the band a few years ago. They are really beautiful and come with full-size art booklets. They did a great job on the actual remastering, too.
This is also the only album in my collection that I have two copies of. The other copy is an original press (not rare or anything, just kept it for sentimental reasons). I would say itās in my top-25 albums of all time, if I had to make a list.
Iām a musician, with a calculator in one hand, adding, subtracting, I make music. When I press this button, music plays.
@Misokatsu I was JUST about to tag you to ask what it says! hahaha
Edit to say ā thank you!
Yellow April #4
The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico, 1967.
Have to start speedrunning these Yellow April records! I only have a week before I have to head up to the hospital for my surgery/recovery stay. We can make it happen.
One of the most important albums in rock n roll history, not much more to say!
I feel as though I sort of bent the ārulesā of this exercise, I would really consider this a white album cover - but I figured the yellow is prominent enough. Iāve always absolutely loved the photography on the back cover and inside the gatefold.
