In my research on this, I learned that it was the first long-playing (LP) record to reach one million copies sold. That’s a cool little fact.
First time I’ve listened to it since I bought it, forgot how great the sound is on it. It actually holds a special place for me - I purchased this record on the trip to the record store in 2016 that triggered me to go from casual record shopper to full-on hobbyist/enthusiast. AKA, started my record addiction
It was more so the other record I got on that day (David Bowie - Heroes) that’s more responsible for it – it was my first time finding a much sought-after record “in the wild” (this was before his full catalogue was reissued a few years back) and I’ve been riding that wave ever since. The Belafonte record was a surprisingly good .99 cent bargain bin add-on.
I’m a big fan of Phil Collins. Been wanting to post some songs and add that he is the biggest benefactor in the world to the Alamo which is a mission and now part of a UNESCO world heritage site.
He spent his money collecting Alamo memorabilia and then donated it to the Alamo.
He became interested in the Alamo from the television shows he watched growing up.
Coincidentally, although I missed this speech, I was in the Alamo right after while he was being interviewed in “the women and children’s room@. I was standing with about one or two other people who knew that that was Phil Collins in there. I watched him get interviewed for an hour or two. Standing about 10 or 15 feet away. It was really something. His legacy is going to live on at the Alamo. Yay Phil Collins!
Edit. I just added this link because the Rolling Stones link is locked. This has history of what he did as a collector.
