Holy bloody Nora, the last three books I’ve read have done me right in for Christmas. Ready to just have a lie down and unfold into a warm duvet after these hard hitters.
This one brought up a lot for me in some respects and made my heart hurt.
… Need a soppy romance now or some crappy beach read… That was the most intense three books I can imagine reading in a row, yet I seemed to willingly manage it.
Merry holidays readers, may 2025 bring you millions of glorious pages.
Yes I know. It opened my eyes to a particular relationship that I had that was not the same at all, but a bit… So upsetting! But necessary to read stuff like that too.
I’m alternating between Necropolitics by Achille Mbembe, Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil by Hannah Arendt and Black Liturgies: Prayers, Poems and Meditations for Staying Human by Cole Arthur Riley. All good books that I would recommend especially in the context of the times we are living…Black Liturgies is my anchor though as the other two books are harrowing (if you enjoy Kafka or are familiar with Germany, you will find Arendt’s characterization of Eichmann depressingly hilarious).
Here’s one of my favorite passages from Black Liturgies
Thank you for posting those books! As a big fan of military thrillers, I started to read the first book and so far it’s amazing! Have you watched a tv series called SEAL Team? It’s one of the best shows ever.
