Hello everyone,
I’ve had a rough week, work is incredibly stressful and I’m having a difficult moment in my relationship that is making me feel sad as well. I’m newly sober and feeling the urge to drink, I won’t and will be able to get through it. But I could use some support and perspective from you all, knowing I am not alone is already motivation for me.

I’ve just been through this exact moment today. I don’t know if I have any advice except to say the moment will pass. Just get through the minutes and hours. Your sobriety is worth keeping.

@Raspy33 you already made a great decision coming here when you could have easily chosen not to. That says to me that inside you really don’t want to drink, your brain is just telling you that it will fix your problems because that’s what we have done in the past so our brains are conditioned to associate alcohol with helping our problems. Take it from someone who didn’t come here and chose to take that drink instead, it took me two years to get back here! You don’t deserve the hell that will come from that first drink, maybe grab some paper and try asking yourself what you are feeling, norm edits, just everything you are feeling right now. Then, ask yourself and respond why you feel that way. Then ask why it’s impacting you so much. Then, what is beyond your control and what is within your control. Basically ask yourself why or how or what continuously on paper until you find the root causes of your emotions and then how you can work through them. Wishing you well, stay with us

Hey Raspy, definitely not alone, my week I have been sick and feeling sad about all the challenges facing family members and myself. Like you, I don’t drink at those feelings, thankfully, I do always know drinking would just make it all way way way worse. Sometimes life is just heavy for me and those times I look at the so called little stuff…my morning coffee and routine, my cat who is soft and likes to cuddle, how beautiful it is outside. I take a little walk, maybe do some light yoga or coloring. Just be, in the moment, even if it feels a little off. Wishing you some calm. Glad you reached out.

Glad you reached out for support. To me that means you care about your sobriety. What would drinking do to help your issue? Nothing. I like to say that if you drink you now have two problems: your problems and drinking. This is a great time to practice patience and getting through a tough mental time without drinking. When you get through it and the urge is gone you’ll have built up those sober muscles. You can do it. If you can get to an AA meeting or talk to another sober person face to face I would highly recommend that. Hope that helps

You are certainly not alone. I am newly sober, too. Coming here to vent or to read others stories or just catch up on my meme-watching has been the best for me. So great job coming here for support!
Also, I break up pieces of the day to make it more doable. The old addage is one day at a time but sometimes that seems overwhelming on hard days. When I’m feeling urges that just won’t go away, I tell myself… Just make it one hour. One hour, that’s it. Drink a couple glasses of water in that hour and then usually I find that by the time it’s come, I’ve already moved on to different thoughts or better ways to cope. If the urge is still there, I’ll tell myself all I have to do is go one more hour. Then I somehow manage to make it that hour, too.
Journaling is extremely helpful, too, to get all the thoughts out so you can make rooms for new ones. I love @Jwfletcher4792 's suggestion.

no , you are not alone . here you share your own version of disfigured situation with souls suffering the same in their ways . alcohol and other stuff are always engaged with trouble . getting wasted bring trouble . trouble bring sad will to be wasted .
the worst triggers , i dare saying , to many are worries of relationships . getting numbed would be damn effective choice to ruin things for good .
wishing you all the best . i wanna see you avoid going down that dark path of temporal ease .
Hold on my unknown friend .
