Astrology video series - free viewing for brief time now

For those interested, a new series called Changing of the Gods has just been released. One episode will be unlocked every 24 hours, for only 24 hours. The first episode dropped today (2/22/2022) at 9pm Eastern Standard Time and the next episode will be made available at the same time the next day while the previous episode will be locked again (as far as I understand).

Here is the trailer:

I’ve only glanced at the first 10-15 minutes so far, but I expect it to be interesting given it is Richard Tarnas who is putting this information out (author of Cosmos & Psyche).

I know there are several people who are interested in astrology on this forum and I’d love to invite discussion on the episodes as they air, even by those who think astrology is a load of bull and want to say so after watching.

Note

As a forethought, because there will be talk of world events through history and now, the subject of politics may arise. I kindly request that there be a light hand concerning politics in this thread. There is a lot of tribalism, division, and hate around politics right now and sadly experience has shown that politics has no place on this forum.

No matter if your views are right, left, in between, or none of it, I hope you will watch and take away the most important and core information. I am personally always open to discuss the political points in my PM box, and I encourage anyone to PM me or take a discussion with another person to a PM, but please keep those discussions out of this thread for the sake of civility. :green_heart:

Otherwise, discuss away!

I finally got a chance to view the whole episode. It was a good, light handed introduction. They have an interview you can watch too and I guess they’ve been gathering information for this documentary since 2014. I guess seeing how things played out in this period of time that Tarnis had wrote about the decade before.

There is a light introduction into astrology, for people who are not very familiar, and then they introduce Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto more in depth as they will be the ones highlighted in the series.

It’s definitely interesting how the energy shown in how the transiting planets connect with each other creates certain energies that is felt in society in general. I remember listening to a financial astrologer back in 2017, and he said something to the effect of, “I don’t know what’s coming in 2020, but the next three years will be a good time to make money, but after that we’re going to see some chaos in the financial system and the world in general.”

Though, of course, astrologers have been talking about 2020 for a couple decades. The Saturn/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn, Mars going retrograde in his own sign of Aries and being in a position as close to the earth as it will be for another 15 years, and the Great Conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter at the start of Aquarius–which is very notable because the two were as close as they ever get in declination terms.

I have Tarnis’s book, but it’s been sitting in one of several piles of books that I’m trying to find the time to read. Now I regret not reading it sooner, but maybe this is a good nudge to make it my next read.

I’ve edited the beginning post as it seems the link doesn’t change each day, so that link will always take you to the episode that is unlocked that day.

I wanted to mention that below the episode, they are having an interview available each day and honestly, I think I am preferring the interviews over the series thus far–though it’s only two days in.

Honestly, I didn’t care for the second episode. I’m watching for astrological information and I felt that too much time was spent on belaboring points, giving opinions in other areas, and overusing certain framing devices. It’s a documentary so I do expect some literary flare to keep people’s attention and entertain, but… it was too much for me. This could be because I’m an astrologer, and one of the things I teach in tutoring is how to see and understand framing in books, magazines, movies, news, etc., so I tend to break down what I read/watch/hear/etc.

On the other hand, I really enjoyed the interview with the astrologer they lined up (straight forward information, so probably why more my style) and his experience being an astrologer and also a palmist.

I thought it was interesting that the lines on your hands change over time! I had no idea! I thought they stayed the same forever, but he talked about how they can change with your diet or ways you live your life, etc. I know just enough palm reading to be fun at parties. I learned it from a book for pick up artists.

Pro-tip (and a little off topic), learning a bit of palm reading is a great way to hold the hand of the person you’re attracted to and hopefully get them more interested in you. :+1: But don’t learn too much. You want to keep things light and fun. You can learn a little bit of astrology or handwriting analysis for the same reasons, minus the hand holding. Know just enough/talk about just enough to be fun and interesting because you want to be able to talk about other things as well. Works for flirting or just being fun and social at a party.

Anyway, I’m curious what other people think who might be watching this documentary and/or the interviews, if there are any.

I read the book over 10 years ago. It made quite an impact on me then and I still find this stuff fascinating though my worldview has changed a lot since then. Judging by the trailer, the series seems to be an extension of book

I’ve been meaning to read the book for a while. I’m such a sucker for psychology and I’ve heard it’s a good read. After watching three of the episodes, I’m thinking that I would probably enjoy the book more. It’s more of a recap for me–with the astrology and the world events.

I like to hear that even though your world views have changed since you read the book, you still find it all interesting. I think it’s the mark of an intelligent mind who can consider ideas, even finding value in some of them, without agreeing with or believing some or all of them.

What things had the most impact on you? Do you still study astrology even though your worldview had changed (if you want to or feel like sharing)?

I don’t study astrology but I remember finding the correlation between planetary positions and earthly happenings very remarkable - a lot material to support his claim and a lot of interesting historical information in there. I mean it just stands to reason that we are affected by other parts of the system of which earth is a part. But in the end it’s just one heuristic among many for understanding these things.
I ended up studying philosophy, particularly political philosophy and started leaning toward a more materialistic explanation for socio-political events, trends etc, that is, a person’s material circumstances determines their consciousness more so than the other way around.
I think this still leaves room for some sort of causal connection between cosmos and psyche. I guess I don’t like to be too dogmatic. I remember a quote from somewhere: “There are more things to heaven and earth than dreamt of in your philosophies”.

Thank you for your comments. Honestly, I agree with you very much in certain areas. My first degree is in finance. I love economics and keep an eye on world happenings through that lens. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs comes to mind when reading your thoughts.

The way the world works is a combination of a lot of things, I think. Nothing is one sided–even astrology. Not being too dogmatic is likely not a bad idea. It allows for new ideas to come in and the old to exit if they’re proved not to be what we thought they were.

I like your quote and I’ll leave you with another, from Aristotle, I think: “It is the mark of an educated mind to entertain a thought without accepting it.”
