Beauty in sobriety

My recent speed bump cost me more then a couple dings and scratches and really reinforced how much more beautiful we are sober. The toll alcohol makes us pay in order to enjoy a temporary place in ‘life in the fast lane’ is SOOO not worth it. It took my body days to recover and I’m still not getting the type of sleep that was making me wake up better and brighter then the one before as when sobriety was truly working its magic.

So while I continue to buff out the dents and scratches due to my recent hit, I thought I’d share the benefits of ‘skin brushing’ with you all since its imperative that we maintain our new shiny vehicles we are so happy to be driving!

Hey everyone! A little background about me: I have 9 years of experience in the beauty industry and a background in skin care (read: makeup artist and liscenced esthetician).

Aren’t the changes in our skin wonderful when we stop drinking? Drinking, smoking, and drug use reek all sorts of havok on our skin!

A few notes about what I’ve read so far:

Coconut oil: wonderful stuff! I personally use it as a makeup remover. While it is very nourishing to your skin it is also comedogenic (which means it clogs pores). So you must be wary of using it as a moisturizer especially on the face.

Exfoliation: Very important but in moderation! No more than 3 times a week. And you must rehydrate the new skin you are exposing so remember to moisturize after! * be careful with dry brushing. You can cause microtears in your skin and ultimately cause more damage. Look into the use of pineapple and papaya as exfoliants. You don’t have to “scrub” to exfoliate!

As always…drink lots of water and protect your glowing skin from the sun! If anyone has any specific questions feel free to message me!

Ohhhh I love this!

How do you reverse age spots and sun damage?!

Unfortunately the truth is that prevention is the key with age spots and sun damage. There aren’t any effective ALL natural treatments to my knowledge. Having a skin care regimine that includes regular exfoliation (as you are aiding in cell turnover), and daily hydration (morning and night!) really helps.

I highly recommend Dermalogica products. They have an entire line dedicated to skin pigmentation issues as well as an Age Smart line. Their products are researched and tested at the Dermal Institute and contain a variety of plant extracts. They are probably about as natural as you can get as far as effective products go.

I’ve tried several skin care products from Lush (love Lush!) but they just don’t hold weight against Dermalogica.

I hope I’m not being presumptuous but I made an educated guess that you would be interested in more natural products (as am I). I don’t want chemicals on my skin! That being said…don’t fear the acids (glycolic, salicyllic, etc). They can really help!

Oh and the obvious! Use sunscreen! And a moisturizer with sunscreen! No more than SPF 30 though. Higher SPFs are not any more effective, they just have more chemicals!

This turned out really rambly…sorry lol :upside_down_face:

I worked for Neal’s Yard for years - small world!

@MissQuinn this is really random but reading your responses made me wonder if you worked at european wax center?

Yes! @Restlesssoul you are correct! Before I had my son I was a wax specialist at EWC. The wax is fantastic and the products truly do work wonders. Very physically demanding job though. I’ve worked at salons doing facials as well.

@Restlesssoul Woah that’s so random! Awesome! Yea I got my estheticians license in 2012 but before that I went to school for sfx makeup, graduated in 2008, moved to Cali and freelanced (more of beauty, fashion, editorial type stuff than fx) until late 2011. Worked for EWC for a total of 1.5 years and plan to re-join the company in July!

That’s freaking awesome!I always wanted to do fx makeup and specializing in makeup in general more than anything.I really enjoy waxing, I quit so I could help take over a business with my husband but I plan to rent a room/booth for waxing and makeup.Probably not for at least 2 more years though.
How exciting for you, I really do love the company and the wax especially.
