Big challenge ahead of me

Today, I’m 39 days sober and I have a big challenge ahead of me this week. I’m flying to Vegas for a day. I’ve been many times for work and pleasure. This is for neither, long story short; my wife is there for a conference, she and the kids are going to Hawaii for a funeral when she’s done in vegas, rather than send the kids to Hawaii alone, I’m escorting them to Vegas.

I feel fine with Vegas, it’s only 24 hours. It’s the weekend I’m concerned with. I’ll be going to Phoenix for a concert. My 3 sister’s will be there (along with their husbands). They all drink, except for one sister. We’ll be there for 3 days.

Then, after that, I’ll be home, alone for 3 days until my wife and kids return; they are my rock.

I know in order to survive, I need a plan.

Plan A: don’t drink.
Plan B: there is no plan B. Plan A is the only option.

I know my sister who doesn’t drink anymore has the same fear, so we’ll be there for one another.

I feel good today, and i know I’ll have the strength to resist the temptations.

I’m writing this post to hold myself accountable and so I can refer to it if I need to.

Man everyone is with you, we all know what we need to do. Quite simple, dont drink, dont use etc…

Sooo somehow man just push trough, pit your head against a wall, whatever works  I wish you the strenght needed . Sometimes its so easy and sometimes its hard, but the worst for me was when there was no struggle, just straight into the abyss !

Check in with your sister beforehand and share your concerns, it’s good you have each other for support.

I have sisters too and I just know they understand and support me with my sobriety, I’m sure yours will too.

You can do this.

So here I am, the day after the concert, day 46! It was easy to stay sober! Huge thanks to my sister’s and brother in law!!! Of the 11 people I was with, 7 of them chose to not drink with me. It was an eye opener too, observing drunk concert goers getting completely trashed, out of control, getting sick and starting fights, oh and the smell of alcohol on people’s breath when bunched up in the crowd was over whelmingly nauseating. Now just 3 more days until the wife and kids get home and I’ll back to the normal grind.
