Binge drinking and withdrawal

I was wondering if ex binge drinkers could let me know their experiences of withdrawl, if any? I’ve felt rubbish for the last few days but I’m on day 11 so shouldn’t it be done by now? Perhaps I really am just ill? Also, in the past when I haven’t drank for a week or two, I haven’t noticed any withdrawal symptoms.

Also, why doesn’t autocorrect work on here?? All my posts have bloody typos

This isn’t my personal problem but I’m bumping this thread back up to the top  :+1:

I was a binge drinker for decades and didn’t realize I was likely feeling withdrawal when I felt anxiety, irritability, etc etc. I am definitely not a fast learner and I simply did not know. Many people call this PAWS or post alcohol withdrawal symptoms. The symptoms can definitely come and go…you don’t always have them continuously and they can pop up again later…at least that seems to be our collective personal experience (for myself and other members here). It makes sense, our bodies are healing after being used to having all that alcohol in our system (it was quite similar for me when I quit nicotine/cigarettes, I could literally feel the change in my body/cells it was so distinct a difference after decades of heavy smoking). I think what you are feeling is quite normal. Our body mind and spirit need time to heal and adjust to being without alcohol in our system and most importantly, our brain cells. That’s a big change and we have a lot of adjustment to do. Being gentle and protective of our selves and our sobriety is so vitally important. Staying hydrated, healthy real foods, get some sunshine, sleep when you can…all healing stuff.

If you do a search here on PAWS you will get lots of old threads and info and experience. Here also is an informative link…

Finally, I use a few apps that don’t spell correct well, if at all and yes, it can be frustrating. :woman_shrugging::slightly_smiling_face:

Hope this helps a bit to know you are not alone in your experience.

I was heavy daily vodka drinking for years. I’m 42 days sober and I feel much better than i did on day one for sure. But I’m still very tried and can tell my body is still very much in repair mood. So depending on how long, how much, how often it may take sometime.

But the best thing for your body is to keep going. Alcohol withdrawal can be serious but please don’t let it stop you, from stopping. Go to doctor if you feel you need to.

Thank you, all 3 of you, for your thoughtful replies. Perhaps it isnt withdrawl but just ongoing poor health? Or I really do have long covid? Ugh, I don’t know. All i know for sure is that I’m tired all the time, my body aches, my skin is crap compared to how it used to be. I’ve been taking daily vitamins but I haven’t noticed much difference yet.

I’m so used to lazy typing on my phone

Hope you feel better soon! There a lot of sick bugs going around that wonderful time of the year. (If it is a bug)

You’re not wrong, everyone I know has been ill recently!

I often got a cold about 8-10 days after stopping my binge cycle. Happened again this time. Fairly low level stuff but it always felt ridiculous to be so much healthier on one hand and on the other to get a cold
