Bloating after stopping alcohol

I’m 14 days in with no alcohol (I was a 2-3 drinks per day person) and have been unpleasantly surprised by how BLOATED I am. I’ve read about water retention and one’s gut getting realigned, and I’ve been eating healthily as I usually do and taking probiotics, but it’s still soooo not what i expected. I thought I’d look 10 pounds lighter by now and instead I look pregnant! Did this happen to you and how long did it take to settle down???

Have you always taken probiotics? That can cause bloating while your body adjusts to them. But also, could be your body adjusting to not having any alcohol or a healthy diet if that’s new for you…

I drank 25 litres of cider everyday for years i was around 25 stone when i quit drinking
I lost a lot of weight when I quit I’m now down to my natural 18 stone (i’m 6’6)
I still have a belly that I’m sure will go with exercise
I’m sure the bloating will stop once your body adjusts maybe its medication

Huh that’s odd. Two drinks really shouldn’t mess up your gut that bad. Bodies are strange.

2-3 drinks? Could be, but it could be something else, maybe get an appointment and get doctors opinion. I’ve heard of it with a lot more drinks but everyone is different

Welcome Stol, glad your here with us sober today!

No idea why you have that particular issue going on, all I know is my mind plays tricks on me once in a while as I challenge it to not have alcohol.

Day 14 here, and the fog comes and goes.

Welcome @Stol1936!
I urge you to contact your primary doctor and get a complete physical including blood work. I know I neglected my health during active addiction and part of my commitment to sobriety was taking care of my health. I know it’s scary but you’ll be so relieved after you see your doctor and get the proper diagnosis and treatment. And don’t forget to be upfront about your drinking history. Wishing you the best on your journey.

Give it more time. Alcohol is a poison and even 2 to 3 drinks a day is not a safe level. Our bodies do heal, but it takes time, and even then, there will be scars left behind.

But also maybe make an appointment with your doc.

Wish you well.

Might take some time, it took me about 4 weeks until gut was good. Might be inflammation in gut, eat some avocados, nuts, kale, spinach. Helps with inflammation. Do smoothies in morning.
Probotics are tricky, sometimes it not the right fit? Give probotics two weeks? (Google what healthy stools will look like, if they aren’t normal- no go on probotic. Try another?) Try a multi vitamin too, sea moss is good and Magenisum supplement. Feel free to message me
