Hello all you beautiful people!! I have just joined this community and i am officially 1yr 5 mnth clean and sober! This makes me very excited because it is the longest ive gone since entering recovery in april of 2019. It took me a while to understand i had a problem with alot more than just hard dr*gs. Now i am looking to find more support and maybe be a support to others starting on their journey. All i an say is that the gifts of recovery are endless and i am forever grateful for the many many gifts i have recieved! One of the biggests gifts is the improvement of my mental health. After being diagnosed with a few things while on my journey i finally have the tools and the clear head to face them head on. I have a long way to go but i also have worked very hard to get this far and appreciate the value in that. I hope that i can be a benifit to this community and its people. May you all have a lovley gift filled day!!!
Hello!! I just joined today and am feeling a bit odd about reaching outside of myself in search of help, or an outward community of sorts - but your post is reassuring! Beautiful name, as well. Thank you for sharing your kind words!!
Congrats on your sobriety! What was your drug of choice?
Hello! And welcome! I understand how difficult reaching out can be however i have learned from experience that it can also be incredibly rewarding!! And thank you i created the name to use as a screen name but i wish it were my real name lol
Thank you i really appreciate that!! And im not sure if i have to but i will sensor just in case i used Ccaie, w**d, alcohol, and many prescription and over the counter meds. how about yourself if i may ask?
Im 137 days off weed and alcohol a personal best
Amazing !!! Congratulations !!!
So what has worked in your recovery?
A big thing for me was changing my mindset, through gratitude for even the smallest of things. I also work weekly with an addictions counselor who guides me along the way. I have done DBT and CBT courses which i found very helpful in the mental health aspect. For me battling my addiction meant confronting my meantal health. So anything that benifited me meantally was a benifit for my sobriety. In the beginning it was alot of prayer and meditation. Oh and one of the biggest things has been to build a community of support around me, not just throug meetings, but also through connections with professionals, healthy friends, and people who could understand where i was and how hard i was working. I couldnt have gotten this far without my strong people around me. How about yourself!?
I found AA and this forum. I got a sponsor. Working the 12 steps. Practicing graditude daily. Trying to see my higher power at work everyday. Trying to hand it over and live life on lifes terms
All great things for sure! Those are also things that helped. I love my sponsor dearly she is a cherished part of my life and always will be!
Welcome Amanda. My name is Dana congratulations on ur clean time!! U have quite abit of time under ur belt! I am also a recovering drug addict. Have been clean for just over 7 months ! Like urself hard drugs have been my demon for 22 years. I have had diff amounts of recovery. I have been trying to seriously get clean since the age of 21. Im 37 now. But i truly feel like this time has quality to my recovery and im not just white knuckling it lol i also was diagnosed with mental health stuff. I think thats quite common amongst addicts amd alcoholics. Medication has helped alot and of course being clean helps too glad ur here! This sure is an amazing forum!
hahah love it!
7 months is amazing!!! I know just how difficult the early months can be so great job! I still concider myself in early recover as i still have so much to learn! But i try to take things one day at a time! I have had my ups and downs but the way i see it as long as you dont stop trying youll always succeed in some way. Every day before a relapse and even a relapse itself teaches us something and we dont lose those teaching because we fell down. We keep them with us and add new teachings that grow into a guiding force that can carry us to our wildest dreams. I know it sounds cheesy but i believe its true. I believe inside every person struggling lies the ability to get back up and keep fighting now matter what. Thats the rule i live by. Never give up… ever!!! Im so happy for you and this forum to add to my journey!
Welcome to the forum and congrats on your 1yr and 5mo sober. I personally think this is the best sobriety community online with a wide variety of people who are at different places in their sobriety journey. There are also some fun threads about things like cats, food, plants, etc., along with threads that are specifically about sobriety. You can really get to know people and feel like you are part of something. Basically you get out of it what you put in, I think. I hope you find it to be a useful tool in your sobriety journey.
Hi Athelwyn welcome
Nice to meet you. I’m Claudia, addicted to alcohol and almost sober for 4 years. Had a relapse and a 5 years sober stretch before that.
Got my sober life back with the help of this app and the people in it.
See you around!
