Drinking too much of anything can be dangerous for your health, with or without alcohol. Hyponatremia is something to be concerned about when drinking too much water, and water intoxication has many symptoms ranging from mild to fatal.
If you’re concerned about how much water you’ve drank and are experiencing any of the symptoms in this link, I’d seriously consider seeking medical attention from a local doctor or at least contacting a medial professional!
Hey thanks. I truly appreciate you looking out.
I’m pretty sure I’m good though. Just using them to pacify the feeling of holding a drink. Today is day 5 and I’m trying to distract.
No problem! Great work on your 5 days of sobriety!
I can relate, I like having some form of Liquid Death in hand when attending gatherings where there is alcohol. Rewiring the brain can take time, but it is possible! ![]()

In early sobriety I drank a hell of a lot of flavoured soda water ( like 12-15 cans a day) and never experienced any adverse side affects other than looks from people at me buying an entire shopping cart full of sparkling water . I think I read before that water toxicity happens when you reach twice your weight in water so highly unlikely to happen. But like Alex pointed out of something feels off maybe check with a medical professional.
Probably got the looks I was getting buying out the Walmart of giant candy bars and sunflower seeds!
Okay! You have me beat. But about 6-8 a day. And HOLY crap I cannot stop snacking!!! even if I’m physically full. It’s like .. oh, can’t have a drink, might as well stuff my face.
… But I’ve made it to day 9 ![]()
I would add fresh cut lime to lemon soda water. My stupid brain would let that pass as a gin and tonic. Then I started thinking that maybe if I made my gin and tonics weaker… maybe I’ll give that a try. Luckily alarm bells went off and I started drinking infused water. How are you doing ? I hope you are in double digits soon !!! ![]()

All perfectly normal in early sobriety. I crushed a few bags of cookies and chips in those early days myself. I do suggest trying out some new activities to help keep your mind and hands busy to curb some of the mindless eating though. It can often become a problem of its own if we rely on it too much as a coping mechanism.
So funny you said that .. last night I remembered I used to love cucumber water, so I made a pitcher and threw it in the fridge overnight.
Also … day 10!
Definitely need to find a new activity!
My ridiculous brain decided I’d try to learn to juggle last night, that lasted over an hour
My friend in AA always says “non alcoholic beer is for non alcoholics” I completely agree. I feel like I’ve made every mistake in my recovery journey. At least I hope I have.
Complete surrender to win. It seems you haven’t loss your sense of humor. That’s another blessing!! Day 11 is coming. Double digits and double digits woooohoooo ![]()
