Checking in daily to maintain focus #30

We do have our 10 years anniversary this year to. For the day we said yes.
We planned to celebrate that with new rings and all since no one was invited to our wedding ten years ago. And my husband’s ex (tweenies Ma) was there trying to ruin it all, and almost succeeded. Simply said it was a mess.

Rings are on their way, but I lost the joy for it. The person who would enjoy it the most, my Pa won’t be here to celebrate with us.

Thank you. There wasn’t much of a choice in my opinion. I had to do it, for myself and for all of us. The good thing is that if I get through all this sober there won’t really be a good reason for me to drink ever again.

@apes2020

That’s pretty awesome, you’ll find some new found freedom with a license, and a car.

I forgot you lived in NYC and Allentown and such, if you ever hit up any clubs or bars in that area you we probably ran into each other in a different life lol. I used to play Croc Rock and a few other venues in that area

@Its_me_Stella Absolutely, same for me. I relapsed monthly many many times right before my period started over the years and I was willfully blind to it until my last big relapse last summer. Self awareness helps, a plan for dealing with it is a good idea, and being kind to ourselves is essential.

I’m glad you’re back. Negotiating and navigating our “selves” in the world isn’t for the faint of heart. You’re amazing - keep being you (whichever part of you feels right for the moment).

Blech. I get the eye movement thing too if I accidentally miss a dose of Venlafaxine. Glad you are feeling better!

Take a good look at yourself and know who you are. I walk around with my head full of AA program and righteous recovery quotes yet when someone tells me today they can’t finish their shift bc his sister might be losing her baby my first reaction is ‘well I’m not staying late’. Its definitely progress not perfection bc I’m still a selfish arse hole but now at least I know I am bc before I never did anything wrong.
Do a nightly inventory of your day and be a better person tommorow.

Checking in, 700 days alcohol free today!! Amazed, proud, excited, courageous, content and HAPPY …these are just a few of things I’m feeling given this number of days sober. Sober life = my best life, for sure! :100::raised_hands::muscle:

I am the same. If I really deserve it then the other person will do it automatically. Or having to ask shows the other person didn’t care. It was my 15th wedding anniversary this year and I didn’t get anything as always. It is my 40th later this year, so have to work on either managing expectations or being proactive. Anyway, happy birthday for tomorrow:smile::confetti_ball::birthday:

@emc2018 Congratulations! That’s marvelous!

@Its_me_Stella I absolutely ditto about the cycle. It should make it easier, but feeling shitty still feels shit even if u know why. Be strong against your triggers!

@CATMANCAM I am glad u feel better and even exercised. It always feels good after, but hard to start!

Checking in on our first day of Winter :snowflake:

Busy day catching up on some study plus 2 live lectures on Zoom… our teacher waffles on and get sooo side tracked, it’s becoming a test of my patience not to show my frustration with my facial expressions and body language :roll_eyes::laughing:

My eldest turned 20 yesterday, holy heck how is possible that I have a 20 year old :flushed: and on Saturday night I had to pick my 18yr old up from one of her first big parties where there was going to be lots of alcohol… man they grow up fast! Funnily enough my 18 yr old was barely even tipsy and told me “I just wanted to be able to stay aware and in control” I almost spat out my herbal tea, I’m beginning to have doubts that she is her mothers daughter with that kind of maturity and sensibility at 18 :joy: but I’m super proud of her :heart:

Hope you all have an awesome Tuesday :sunglasses::star2:

Yep. Being around people who are drinking and watching them slowly deteriorate into inarticulate shadows of themselves does wonders for your resolve, doesn’t it?!

This is a great post and it will preserve sobriety for some people who read it. Working out why your urges are particularly strong is really powerful. It puts you in control. The number of times I’ve had a craving and then realised that I’m either hungry, or thirsty, or both is huge. Knowledge is power. Love it. :boom::muscle:t2:
