My christmas started with a family meeting that has been years in the making, a get together with my sis, the two daughters from my dadās middle brother and the son from his youngest. This is family I actually like. And it was big fun.
So hereās hoping the next get together will be faster in the making than yesterdayās one. It was so long ago I talked to my cousin Bart he poured me a glass of sparkling wine before I could say no and then he assumed I couldnāt drink because I had to work after the brunch we were having.
Anyway, the first iceberg of christmas has been navigated successfully. Work was OK too, more people admitted there than I thought beforehand. Quiet shift. Letās repeat tonight. And than do christmas proper. Of course I didnāt think of gifts. Iāll get my sis something today or tomorrow morning. The groceries are open.
As always have as good a day as you all can friends. Sober and clean as always too. Weāre in this together. Love.

KÅ«Äios (Lithuanian pronunciation: [ĖkuĖtÉÉs]) or KÅ«tÄs (Samogitian Dialect) is the traditional Christmas Eve dinner in Lithuania, held on December 24. The meal is a family occasion which includes many traditions of both pagan and Christian origin.
Preparing for KÅ«Äios is an all day event, though the preparations can begin up to a week in advance in some communities. On Christmas Eve, the entire house must be thoroughly cleaned and all of the bed linens must be changed. Everyone attending KÅ«Äios must bathe and dress in clean clothes before the evening meal. Before gathering at the ritual table, everybody makes up with their neighbors and forgives their enemies. The twelve dishes for the evening meal are prepared as is the meal for the first day of Christmas during the day.
Traditionally, people fast and abstain from meat for the entire day. While the Catholic Church has decreed that food may be eaten as often as desired on Christmas Eve, most Lithuanians still adhere to the original custom of abstinence. Before they changed their stance, Catholics could only eat a handful of boiled peas and water on Christmas Eve with exceptions allowing small children, the sick or very old persons to eat a bit more. This tradition is still followed by many Lithuanians. Although official fasting no longer exists, most Lithuanians refrain from eating meat on Christmas Eve so as to preserve tradition. Regardless of what is consumed during the day, it is vitally important that the Christmas Eve dinner include no meat dishes because it would then no longer be called KÅ«Äios but an ordinary meal prepared for any other evening.
The table is then covered with a pure white tablecloth, set with plates and decorated with symbols of the life force, which sustains the human world according to pagan beliefs. These include fir boughs, candles, and a bundle of unthreshed rye, which pagan families would traditionally bind around their apple trees the next day.
KÅ«Äios draws the family members closer, bringing everyone together and strengthening the family ties. In this spirit, if a family member has died that year or cannot attend the meal (only for very serious reasons) an empty place is left at the table. A plate is still placed on the table and a chair is drawn up, but no spoons, knives or forks are set. A small candle is placed on the plate and lit during the meal. It is believed that the spirit of the deceased family member participates in the KÅ«Äios along with everyone.
Traditionally, dinner starts when the first star appears in the sky, though this is no longer common practice.
According to ethnologists, KÅ«Äiukai is the archaic form of ritual bread, that is meant for the souls. They are so tiny because souls have no material bodies; the plentifulness of them is due to the fact that there exists a great number of souls.
As a kid I was always exited about KÅ«Äiukai! Yesterday did 20 hours fast then ate one meal and now going 27 hours fast. I can tell I still feel the same excitement as a kid! Life is a Miracle happening! But we donāt always keep that same faith. Our world gets complicated and doubts begin to creep in. WE start putting limits on what is possible and what is not. Our connection changes. Itā is beautiful time of renewing the connection, spreading love and warmth. We should always be like this
Have the best day possible, all! Love what @SoberWalker said about always warmth and love here at TS.
@Mno thanks always for your encouragement too! Looking good with the cousins! Lots of love there. Can see it on the faces. Happy for you on that.
@zzz thanks so much for describing the Lithuanian traditions. Very meaningful ā¦ it brought tears to my eyes.
Find good in your day wherever you are, whatever youāre doing.
If you celebrate Christmas, enjoy.
Big hugs everyone.
The light is on here. The support is here. If it gets to be too much whatever youāre doing, and you need a breather or support, your peeps here at TS are here for you.
Day 344.
Happy sober Christmas, my TS fam. I really love you and Iām grateful for all the support and encouragement youāve offered me in my journey.
So this is my very first sober Christmas and Iām kinda excited. There will be food and the holiday magic. By holiday magic, I mean presents, of course.
Yeah, itās shallow and consumery and whatever butā¦ dunnoā¦ the whole excitement of unwrapping a little gift takes me back to the few nice moments from my childhood.
Day 9 ,feel great. Got our annual friends Xmas eve party starting at 2pm. Myself and another mate were always the drunken fools who people bounce off all day and it always ends with us both drinking far too much.
Looking forward to experiencing (enduring!) it sober this year and being in a fit state to sit down with the kids tonight and watch a Xmas film together. Not really looking forward to the never ending questions of why Iāve given up the booze.
Happy Xmas eve everyone
Thank You! Big hugs in return
Yes we do celebrate Christmas the next day after KÅ«Äios.
Have a wonderful time
Hey all, checking in on day 1288. I hope everybody has a good one!
@Just_Laura hi there! I grew up in Chicago. The cold and snow I do not miss. Today is 90 days for me. Made it through the first of 2 Christmas celebrations at my home, yesterday. Tomorrow is the final one.
Merry Christmas!
100 days!
Feeling good!
There are so many similarities to polish Christmas traditions. You took me on a trip down memory lane
Finding it hard today, not so much the drink but not being able to see my children, ex wife is stopping me see them. But Iāve never been a fan of Christmas, Iām not much of a TV fan, I like to be active. Gym is closed until Wednesday and the weather is terrible. Just find it boring to be honest. Wishing everyone else a great Christmas.
Heās guys Merry Xmas Eve. Weāre just gonna hang out at my house tonight, have dinner and probably watch some movies. I signed up to work tomorrow, so a couple of my guys with little kids in the house can stay home that morning. I donāt mind the moneys good, and my kids are grown, so even when theyāre home they donāt get up till noon. . I gonna meet them and my wife over families house for dinner after work Xmas day and then back home, nothing huge. I hope you all have a great holiday
